Bierhaus. Bar Crawl NYC - The Best Cocktail Bars In NYC 2013. You may or may not have known that Tales of the Cocktail spent last week ensuring the streets of New Orleans were filled with even more interesting facial hair and Sazeracs than normal. But you probably didn't know that New York watering holes took home whatever the bar equivalent of "tons of beads" is, after netting the titles of Best New Cocktail Bar in the World, Best Restaurant Bar, International Bartender of the Year, and more.
You're damn right Best Bar Mentor is on there. And you can cover them all in a quick crawl pretty easily. You can commence cocktailing at either end of this list and it would work just fine, but we're starting at... 60 NYC bars with fireplaces Stop #1: Clover Club in Cobble Hill Awards: Best American Cocktail Bar, Best High Volume Cocktail Bar, Best Bar Mentor: Julie Reiner What you need to know: Clover's been one of the most-lauded bars in the country since opening in 2008, and here it still is.
Then what? Then what? Then what? The NYC Top Chef dining guide. XVI - Drink. Most locals like consider themselves above Times Square, but considering the Bubba Gump Shrimp Factory is actually only on the second floor you're not that far above it. To look much further down on that crowd, hit XVI. Slipping into the defunct Highbar space and accessed via a private corridor and express elevator, the team behind this whimsical "Versailles in the sky" (henceforth XVI, as in "Louis the") leaned on their experiences at Pink Elephant and Juliet Supperclub -- and a Miami design heavyweight -- to assemble phantasmagorical elements including a giant gilded projection screen, tentacle-like "trees" that writhe towards the sky, and a 50ft wall covered in faux grass (don't worry, you'll still be totally high).
And for entertainment that isn't liquid, expect screenings, catered events, and a lineup of "renowned DJ's", which'll ensure there'll still be someone looking down on you. Breaking a slump usually requires either a change of scenery or getting laid, so either way it's all about bushes.
To drink the efforts of our ancestors' slump-busting, hit up Lantern's Keep. Coming from Raine's Lawroom to mix it up at the Iroquois' swanky new parlor, mixologist Meaghan Dorman's cocktails were inspired by the myriad bartenders who escaped America's alcohol slump (i.e., temperance) by fleeing to "friendlier destinations in Europe", which also plays out in the decor: a marble-laden antique library with touches like candelabras and chairs upholstered in blue velvet (though afterward don't expect to Mulholland drive anywhere). Craft dedication starts well before any mixers are poured, with four highly specific ice types including a Collins-sized cylinder that's made by a machine they received as a gift for the opening, a 2" cube called the Akamoto Dead Clear, and 1.25" cube Kold Drafts, making buttery nipples hard.

With enough grit and determination, a person can overcome any handicap, whether he's a blind man climbing Everest, or a one-armed man strangling Harrison Ford's wife. Even more inspiring: The Blind Tiger Ale House, a West Village standby before their landlord booted them in favor of a Starbucks. Reopened on Bleecker, the team slogged through a brief stint as a coffee house while awaiting their liquor license, but their patience paid off in the form of 28 taps, two casks, and a staggering list of microbrew bottles, large-formaters, and "weird sh*t most people have never heard of".
If New York is a city of beer geeks, then Blind Tiger is their mecca. P.S., If owner Ian Campbell is on hand, be sure to ask what he's got stored in the cellar. Being part of a passion project is great, unless you're Jewish, in which case working with Mel is the Pits.
To literally drink in someone else's passion instead, head over to The Wayland, a live music cocktail bar from a duo whose many years 'tending, cooking, and consulting have finally resulted in a place to call their own. A small-plates kitchen's connected to the bar to better share ingredients, staff'll jump out from behind the epoxied poured concrete bar to kick out jams on the piano, and secondhand elements range from fixtures from a nearby demolished school, to a door from Andy Warhol's studio they've dubbed "Andy Doorhole". All that effort makes for some seriously interesting cocktails, with hot seasonal tipples including "The Mexican Standoff" (mezcal & barrel-aged cocoa tequila mixed w/ a blend of dark choco, cocoa nibs, and cayenne) prepared tableside.
Slideshow. Bia Bar & Grill - Drink. Sometimes, the best thing about a Manhattan rooftop bar is looking at it from a far less populated Williamsburg rooftop bar like Bia Bar & Grill: an open-air oasis with dramatic views from the team behind old Ave C fave Duke's. A light overhaul of an ancient carriage house (which eventually turned into a repair shop for these crazy "horseless carriages"... have you seen these menaces?!) Has resulted in said glistening rooftop with umbrella-equipped tables, plus dual staircases that lead down to a cavernous interior with a working piano, John Wayne photos, darts, and a door that "hasn't been opened since 1969", which doesn't sound like a challenge in the least. Food's not ready just yet, but'll include the owner's (Duke!) Native Vietnamese fare like grilled meats, pho, banh mi, and rice dishes including a secret recipe from his mom that's "different from all the others", so it's pretty cool that you can eat a rice dish that was on Lost.

Setting up in the Hudson Hotel and looking like a massive hall reserved exclusively for warriors who were felled in service of the burger and brew gods, HC has decreed that all men's god-given pursuit of happiness is "greatly enhanced by large quantities of ice-cold local draught beers and Bloody Mary bacon fries". Hear, hear! Everyone appreciates a good sit, and this is the third-best place to do it -- big comfy couches located at each end of the space. Second best: these ones right next to the fireplace. First best: one of the throne-like chairs at the end of each table. You shall become the King of Beers! (Note: no association with the actual King of Beers, who is named Wade Boggs.)
That's not just a place to get lost in your own beautiful eyes -- behind it is a TV, so you can get lost in Mandy Patinkin's eyes. The food menu's got two sides: Common and Uncommon. This Uncommon one is covered in two kinds of Georgia mustard-braised bacon. Those Bloody Mary French Fries. Cocktail time? King Cole Bar - Midtown East - New York, NY. The Bar Downstairs - Midtown East - New York, NY. Reichenbach Hall - Drink. Midtown (specifically the Bead District!) Is now home to a giant beer hall, and it's packed to the sudsy gills with huge wooden communal tables, barrels, bags of malt, and an overriding Oktoberfest-tent vibe that will make you want to stare people in the eye, yell "Prost!
", and house some beers before doing the same with pretzels bigger than your torso. Obviously, there are sausages, from a bowl of cocktail franks, to this one jammed with cheese that oozes out when you take a bite. Pull up a seat and get ready for the beers. They're running with an all-German selection that boasts some more unusual options, including Sion kolsch, Schofferhofer hefeweizen, and a Reichenbach Pils that they get made just for them using a secret recipe they weren't quite ready to divulge. Naturally, they're all available in giant steins. Or das boots. Also, feel free to drink legit German schnapps, Austrian rum, wine, or boring Jager shots with three friends from their array of shot skis. La Biblioteca - Midtown East - New York, NY. Pennsylvania 6 - Drink. Whether you're heading to happy hour or just to marvel at Iman Shumpert's flat-top, you should head to Pennsylvania 6, the two-floored, deco-tinged beer bar/ bistro right near MSG that's trying to "break out of the Irish pub trap around the area", even though it's very difficult to climb out of a hole cleverly covered with sticks and leaves, which all the foolish Irish pubs tend to fall into.
Pull up to this raw bar to scarf some bivalves and lobster, or indulge in their twisted bistro standards including beer-braised short ribs, a fancy burger w/ double Wagyu patties & young Gouda, and pomegranate-glazed duck breast. 20 craft bottles and 20 taps from all around the world include Green Flash East Village Pilsner, Defiant Brewing Little Thumper, and Brooklyn Black Ops, featuring an ABV that'll take you from Zero to Dark in less than thirty... seconds. Or minutes. Or something. Whatever, it's strong. Hate delicious beer? Map Data Map data ©2014 Google, Sanborn. EVR - Midtown West - New York, NY. Haven - Drink. Booker and Dax - Drink. Because the only thing you've seen tanked in a science lab is hydrogen, head over to Booker and Dax, the much-talked-about, finally arrived rebranding of the original Milk Bar space overseen by the French Culinary Institute's Director of Culinary Technology, whose sorcery runs from centrifuged liquors to liquid nitrogen, making your chances of seeing something smashed basically 100%. Your first look at the revamped menu starts... now! : Clarified: Spun vigorously in said centrifuge (which sits right behind the bar) to separate flavors from the solids that deliver them, this category covers a bananafied rum known as the Banana Justino (served straight-up w/ a two-inch square ice cube), and a crystalline, Bloody Mary-flavored blend of reposado, clarified tomato juice, horseradish distillate, and Sriracha named the Lady of the Night, which, like prostitutes, sounds like it will be hot but isn't.

"Location, location, location" means different things to different businesses -- bodegas grab corners to snare foot traffic, while shady accountants occupy 2nd floor offices so passersby'll be reassured their shadiness is legit.
Locking down the perfect cranny for a clandestine cocktail bar, Apotheke. 'Theke's barkeeps also take requests, and'll offer a "house remedy" for whatever ails you -- though there is no cure when your location, location, location is always a bar. Even though a city whose biggest hill is Murray probably doesn't need a ski lodge, this winter, the Americano Hotel is turning their top level into Conosur, which boasts nourishing South American food perfect for after a tough day on the not-slopes, and a pool that's been heated to hot tub temps. Champagne magnums in the pool. Probably don't wear your Bogner one-piece in here. After a nice soak, head inside for a proper dinner in the sheepskin-adorned solarium. This is just ridiculous: A 90-day-aged ribeye cooked on their parilla (a South American grill) and topped w/ bone marrow & chimichurri rojo. Fondue time! While bread is good too, the chef says "dip the strip steak in it".

It's one of their regulars and prominently features a black cherry cider that the creator of the 'tail instantly knew would work well with Averna. Though this one is technically a cider, "Amaros and beer are friends". Usually whiskeys and other strong-flavored liquors hold up best with a beer cocktail, but the Witte 75 (a take on the French 75) pairs Ommegang Witte with gin to create "a dude's mimosa".
