Your business's culture may be to blame. Hiring and retaining the best talent is as tough as it's ever been, with projections through 2012 indicating that, for the first time in U.S. history, the number of younger workers entering the labor market won't be enough to replace those who are leaving. By 2006, one in six workers will be over the age of 55, while the 25-to-34 demographic will have shrunk by nearly 9 percent, according to a study by the National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers .

Despite this workforce trend, it's still possible to attract more talent than your company needs. Consider Southwest Airlines, which, according to one company insider, recently received more than 50,000 applications for 500 available positions! Organic vs. Non-Organic App Installs: What Advertisers Need to Know. Written on Apr 26, 2012 Author Giancarlo Maniaci | ADOTAS – In today’s app world, there is so much competition for developers that it is practically impossible for them to get their mobile apps even noticed. As a result, developers have found multiple ways to manipulate the app stores or beat the system in order to bring attention to their apps and drive downloads.

There are only two ways for a developer to drive installs of their app(s) — either organically or non-organically. An organic install occurs when a user encounters an app that they decide is worthy of purchasing or downloading for free, due to their high level of interest in the app. The three most commonly known forms of non-organic installs happen through the use of incentives such as virtual goods or extra game content, bot farms and other paid services. Bot farm services are generally founded in countries where labor is particularly cheap. Reader Comments. Great post, Giancarlo. Cheers – Scott Pingback from vs.

Het Scott, How to add localized app descriptions using iTunes Connect | OneSky. Through iTunes Connect, you can add localized metadata, keywords, and screenshots in different languages in order to aid discovery and to reach more international users. For exmaple, if you have uploaded localized metadata, keywords and screenshots in German, the users who have set their iOS language to German would see your text and images in German. This also applies to all the German-speaking stores on the “Rights and Pricing” page that you selected. And the users in those German-speaking stores would be able to discover your app by searching the localized keywords that you have provided. Localizing the app description is also a good way to test the water if you do not want to commit full resources to translate the whole app right at the beginning. A typical app description usually just contains a few hundred words so it shouldn’t be expensive to translate it.

Steps to add a new localization Go to “Manage Your Apps” on iTunes Connect. Translating your apps can be easy, see how. Getting more done by working less. The easiest way to get more work done is to do less. Unfortunately this is also one of the hardest steps to make when owning a business. Now, first let’s clear up some things. Most importantly, the work doesn’t just disappear. Obviously walking away from loads of work never made a business successful. Someone has to do it, it just most likely shouldn’t be you. I’m super guilty of this. Last week I decided I wanted to run some new banners to a landing page for my latest start-up, GameAcademy.com.

After the dust settled from the fiasco, I ended up hiring someone on Odesk and now the page looks roughly 1000 times better. Now listen, I know better. No, that’s not the name of an awesome band, but it should be. In my somewhat humble opinion, if you own the company and aren’t focused on T.M.O. then you are most likely focused on the wrong thing. T.M.O. stands for Traffic, Monetization and Optimization.

Traffic and Monetization are the two most important. Let me repeat that. Kudos. The Importance of Localization in App Stores. What’s the best way to penetrate foreign app stores? There’s a case for localization. If you want to maximize your app’s revenue on iOS, recent data shows that you’re going to have to think bigger than just the U.S. market. According to our September statistics, the U.S. accounted for just 28% of the free download market and just 34% of global revenue from iPhone apps. One point stuck out from this slide: language.

In both cases of free download and revenue share, the number two spot behind the U.S. is occupied by an East Asian country with a non-Latin writing system (China and Japan). North of 60% of the top 25 iPhone apps in Korea have Korean names and the other East Asian countries Japan, Taiwan and China lie between 30% and 60%. Is localization less important in European countries? We speak to many app publishers globally, and the appetite to localize one’s apps is strong indeed. To truly unravel how money moves around the app economy, you’d need a bank of 30 to 60 servers scraping data from the iTunes, Google, and Amazon App Stores for about five hours a day--every genre, every country, every app. As it turns out, this monumental operation exists at Apptopia, which has used its proprietary data-haul to predict just how big holiday sales will be for app developers this year. What's more, Apptopia Founder and CEO Jonathan Kay has extracted lessons for developers in these numbers: 10 strategies that most any developer can reproduce. But first, how big is the pie? Download volume will peak on Christmas day, when Apptopia predicts 410 million downloads for iOS and Android combined. During the week of December 25 to December 31, that number will jump to 2 billion downloads.

By the end of December the total will reach 6.5 billion, about 4,680 for each available app title. These statistics are what Kay calls a “very, very educated guess” for 2012 growth. Get coding! Four Mistakes Entrepreneurs Make That Hurt Their App Business | App Empire. There’s a lot that goes into running a successful app business, so it’s understandable to forget some things along the way. But in a business where every detail counts, sometimes it can really cost you. To save you from these pitfalls, we’ve listed the common mistakes we see every appreneur make that hurts their app business the most.

Update: It’s been over 7 months since this post was originally written and this information is still the most common mistakes I see appreneurs make. Check back in with this list every couple weeks to stay accountable! 1. Falling in Love With Your Idea You should be passionate about what you do. As most of you know from App Empire, we explain the concept of emulation to choose hit app ideas. 2. You have your business strategy lined up, your daily mantras buzzing in your head, and your mockups layed out – you are PUMPED. When that “new venture adrenaline” is running through you, it’s easy to get caught up without making sure your systems are in place. 3. 4. $2.4 Million Dollars Per Day. When venturing into a new arena, it’s always good to look at the highest possible upside.

In the mobile game industry, that high mark is being set by Supercell, a small game studio in Finland that developed the mega hit games Clash of Clans and Hay Day. As reported by Forbes, Business Insider and more, they are doing $2.4 million dollars per day in revenue with a valuation of $700,000,000 dollars, they are now being touted the fastest growing mobile game company ever. Not bad for an outfit that was just founded in 2010. So how did they do it? The Secret Sauce First off, Supercell had experience. Having experience is great, but what is mind boggling is how fast Clash of Clans rose to the top. It’s no secret their biggest hit, Clash of Clans, borrowed heavily from Digital Chocolate’s big social hit, Galaxy Life.

“…they have similar gameplay, tutorials and the same basic premise.” The secret to Clash of Clans success goes back to the golden rule when deciding what game to make: Theme matters. Taking Your App From Good To Great- A Critique’s Take. Developers work hard and for long hours putting a lot of their inventive thoughts, time and energy into making a great product.

Many developers miss to take a few key steps that could take their app from grass to grace. Almost everyone nowadays with the advancement in technology has a smartphone for example the iPhones and android phones. Developers have great challenge to designing newer and better apps daily. Getting an app into people’s hands is never easy creating the right product and managing to get loyal customers requires a good strategy. Apps Impression The app icon and the user interface should be clean, easy to use and fluid. Users begin to form opinions about the app once they download it. The developers should read the reports from users to find out which platforms have got fame so as to get knowledge on where to target their work. Determination of the Demographics Vast information about app users and usage is from the public. What Do the Top 100 Paid App Icons Have in Common?

Posted 03/23/2011 at 11:45am | by J.R. Bookwalter On any given day in Apple’s iOS App Store there are 100 apps that rise above all others -- where the owners of iPhones, iPod touches and iPads decide with their hard-earned dollars which cream rises to the top. Because we’re curious types, we decided to pick a random day, grab all Top 100 paid app icons and break them down into our own unscientific categories to see if there’s any science behind what’s popular and what’s not. The results may surprise you! Animals If you think that apps featuring all sorts of animals (cuddly or otherwise) are popular, you’d be right. Cameras Despite the fact that all three iOS device categories now feature dual cameras, apps whose icons feature snapshot creators only made up five of the Top 100 Paid Apps, and one of those -- 8mm Vintage Camera -- only does video, doing a slick real-time conversion of your 720p HD video footage to the classic, grainy look of Super-8mm film as it’s being shot.

Characters Faces. The Indie Revolution: How little games are making big money. Minecraft, Fruit Ninja, Temple Run and many more – we’ve all been in contact with these games. These games are brands in themselves that inspired toys, sequels and movies while making a boat load of money for their creators. Indie studios are going mainstream with multi-million recurring revenues and billion dollar valuations. You know that a game has gone mainstream when the monetization is successfully going beyond the “in game purchase” model. For example, Minecraft made around $100 million last year and this number will see significant rise due to lego deals, merchandise and beyond, and it isn’t even aggressive with monetization as Supercell or NaturalMotion.

Same with other games like Angry Birds. Multiple platforms are opening and rushing to support indie games and developers, and folks who used to work for big publishing or AAA studios are quitting starting their own indie studio or self-publishing their game. That’s just one of many examples… The Kickstarter Source: kickstarter Why?
