This past month we've featured roundups of our dream kitchens and bathrooms, and in the same spirit of big dreams and endless possibilities, I'd like to share my dream vacation home to kick off the season of road trips and beach bonfires, berry picking and porch swinging. Welcome to my ideal summer home. Interior (clockwise from top): 1.This is what grocery shopping looks like at my dream vacation home.

Previous image Next image Name: Alec (the first Apartment Therapy LA editor!) & DavidLocation: New York, New York This is the apartment I share with my fiance David.
It's a one bedroom (about 550 square feet) in Hell's Kitchen. The apartment has a few amazing aspects (a little back yard! The kitchen is a New York City marvel in that it is quite big, which is great because we both cook and we do lots of entertaining (pic doesn't show the full space). The tiny bedroom came with a poorly built-in wall of storage (which is why the bedroom is so small). The backyard is still a work in progress, but it serves as an extra room during warmer months (although the pesky "no-see-um" bugs tend to keep me away). Name: Veronica Sheaffer and Keith Dumbleton Location: Ukrainian Village, Chicago, IL Size: 1,400 square feet Years lived in: 3 years; rented My Hands Made It, the name of Veronica's blog, is not a misnomer. A simple glance at the source list for their apartment's furnishings will tell you that Veronica and Keith are creative and capable DIYers who have invested a great deal of time, imagination, and care into their home. Enter House Tour One of the first things one sees upon entering is a vivid orange poster for the Tati film Mon Oncle. The apartment is filled with color and pattern, but these elements don't compete with one another, thanks to a careful eye for styling.
Keith, a teacher for Chicago Public Schools, also enjoys working with his hands, and it's clear that the apartment has significantly benefitted from these two creative minds and four capable hands working together. A midst all the hustle and bustle of a weekend filled with wedding activities and family reunions, a few of us took a short break from it all, hopped in the car, belted up and traveled a short twenty miles to Ashland, Oregon. But I don't love bulky vanity sinks. As we renovate our bathroom, I find myself gravitating toward pedestal or console sinks, but I am not ready to give up all the wonderful storage space our current 1980s double vanity provides. I know I could look for a cool vintage piece on Craigslist or at estate sales. I could get two such cabinets to flank a single sink. Do you have any good sources for floor cabinets for the bathroom?

Name: Caitlin Flemming Location: Presidio Heights — San Francisco, CA Size: 725 square feet Years lived in: 7 — rented Caitlin's interior design blog, Sacramento Street, caught my eye a few months ago. I knew my visit to San Francisco would not be complete without a tour of the lovely home of this creative interior designer!
Caitlin's space is small, functional and absolutely adorable. Caitlin and her husband have lived in San Francisco for seven years and have managed to hold on to their 725 square feet in the heart of the Presidio Heights neighborhood. What I like so much about Caitlin's space is her eye for seamlessly blending new and old items into a cohesive look. Apartment Therapy Survey: Our Style: Clean, crisp, and a mixture of old and new. Biggest Challenge: My biggest challenge is the size. Globally Inspired Bedrooms: Soft & Serene. Previous image Next image Of all the trends that have reached a feverish pitch over the past few years, relaxed global is my favorite. Despite it's popularity, the thousand variations keep it from looking tired. In the bedroom, in particular, it can set just the right balance between calm and interesting.
When mixed against a muted backdrop and/or combined with a few rustic pieces, globally inspired prints (Moroccan and Indian have been among the most popular in recent trends) add the perfect amount of excitement into a serene bedroom. Just remember, a few accents in the form of pillows or throws can go a long way. Of course nothing beats actually visiting the homeland responsible for beautiful ethnic prints. Every part of their home is warm, comfortable, and filled with love. Lisa and Piero definitely make use of their fireplaces, and there are enough books around the house to make you feel like you are in your favorite book store. You never want to leave the home, but the outside landscape is very beautiful as well — Lisa wanted her backyard to feel like an English garden. There is not one room in their house that I didn't love. Apartment Therapy Survey: Aga. Faith's Magical Bohemian Treehouse House Tour. Name:Faith BlakeneyLocation: The Treehouse - Los Angeles, California Size: 750 square feet Years lived in: 2 years I spent a warm Sunday hanging out with Faith at her bohemian treehouse.
She is one stylish lady (and, yes, she is the sister of Justina Blakeney). When Faith moved from New York a few years back, she looked at place after place on Craigslist only to get frustrated because she had her heart set on lving in Venice. Then, when she reluctantly agreed to look at a place (now, her home) just outside of Venice, she cried when she walked through the front door. It was perfect! Faith's daughter Noa loves their new home as well.
