It may still be cold but warm weather is on the way, check out the simplified version in the tute below. This tutorial includes both the split seam ruching and maxi skirt instructions. DIY Instructions: Fabric: preferably a knit. 2 yards. Measure from your hip bone to the floor and add 5 inches to that for the length. If you want one slit then sew one side up >right sides together<. Next step: DIY split seam. I love the ruching this split seam gives to my maxi skirts.

I just had enough left over from my Nautical Dress to whip this baby out. I decided to make the waistband on this skirt stretchy. It is just nice to be able to pull it on with a shirt and go. Materials Needed 1 yd or 1 and 2/3 yd of Fabric (explained below)1.5" wide elasticCoordinating thread color Fabric- I found this yellow damask stretchy knit fabric for just 3.99 a yard at Golden D'or in Dallas. For this project I would recommend using a knit, voile, silk, charmeuse, or any other soft fabric. Pin around the perimeter to keep fabric in place.

Died Maxi Skirt. Folded Miniskirt. Difficulty: Intermediate. It's based on the Drapedrape dress no 7, and it has the same 'what am I looking at here' feel to it. At one point you'll think, 'what a mess' and then it just clicks and you have a beautiful skirt. This click does not seem to happen with everyone, showing from the comments.
