Larger than a crib quilt, this Rail Fence is suitable for toddlers and lap quilts. Each of the five strips in this version of the Rail Fence quilt block finishes at 1-1/2" x 7-1/2". Avoid fabrics with large, widely spaced multicolor motifs, because they usually look pretty chopped-up when cut into narrow strips. Choose mottled fabrics, small prints, batiks, tone on tones and other similar fabrics. You can preview how a fabric might look in the layout by making a window template that measures 1-1/2" x 7-1/2". Feel free to use more fabrics than illustrated here -- you might prefer a different fabric for each position in the block. Layout can vary as much as fabric selections -- the illustration is one of numerous possibilities. Finished block size: 7-1/2" x 7-1/2" Finished quilt size: about 45-1/2" x 53", with border as shown Fabrics and Other Materials.

I'm happy to be a part of luvinthemommyhood's baby bonanza today, with a nice little break from all things kitchen!

I just needed to be able to actually see how many diapers I had in the pouch, otherwise I'd get down to one diaper and be on an all-day outing. Not good. Materials: 1/3 yard linen (you'll have plenty of scraps leftover) fabric scraps cotton webbing 1.5" wide - 8" long velcro (3/4" wide by 1.25") fusible fleece - you could also use cotton batting sewing machine, thread, pins, etc. I was surprised at how quick this project is, so definitely churn some out for friends and family! Cut the pieces: {pictured above are the materials for the butterfly print version - but you get the idea} From the linen cut 2 pieces 8.5" wide by 5" tall.
