Money Monday and How I Came To Sell On Ebay. Other than a couple of sourcing trips, I pretty much took this week off from ebay, and my sales showed it. I only listed 3 new items, and I sold 10 items. I spent most of the week working on some much needed home improvement projects. However, I'm all set to list, list, list this week :) One of my nicer sales this week was this Department 56 Fezziwig Figurine. I picked it up for $4.00 at the thrift store and sold it for $34.95. Christmas definitely sells all year. As I was pondering what I would write about this week, I realized that I had never shared how I actually came to start selling on ebay.

My ebay story began with a dance. While brainstorming different ideas, my husband remembered that he had several boxes of toys in the basement from his childhood. Over the next several months, I expanded my sourcing to storage unit auctions, antique malls, and the clearance racks of brick and mortar stores.

Refashion a Girl's Dress from a Woman's Polo and a Baby Onesie!

Have a pile of clothes on it's way to Goodwill? Why not give a couple pieces new life and refashion them into something new and modern! I used an old white polo shirt and a blue striped baby onesie to make this dress: Using the thick knit for the dress made it perfect and extremely comfortable and warm for winter (we live in Texas, so more like fall for the rest of the US!) I think the blue stripes not only gives the dress visual interest but it looks kind-of nautical... Want to see how I made it? Here is what I started with: Next I cut off the collar, sleeves and the bottom cuff. Using one of my daughter's dresses as a pattern for the length and width I cut the white fabric to match. Here is what the back looks like: I used the back piece to cut the front piece. Cut off the buttons and seaming on the front.

Here is what the front piece looks like. I cut the onsie up the same way and avoiding the screen printed dog on the front. Handmade Mad Hatter's top hat by Reminiscexx on deviantART. Charity resale vintage and consignment shops in Cheektowaga, New York Page 1. Time Lord Mary Poppins. Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Let me start off by saying that I LOVE dressing up! So.... that makes Halloween one of my FAVORITE holidays.

I always like to be something different each year (or else it gets too boring!) , however, I've compromised with having 3 different costumes. This way, I stay true to the Montessori 3 year cycle (and no kid sees my in the same costume the whole 3 years they're in my class). Last year I was Cat in the Hat which was a huge hit. I knew I wanted to semi make my costume and... be something 'child-related' (being a teacher and all)... so... I made my bow tie, hat and skirt... I made my skirt using navy blue, light weight fabric and black elastic. As for the hat, I bought a black hat from the party store and glued daisies on it using a glue gun- also very simple.

I had black shoes and black stockings. I put my hair in a low bun, gave myself some rosy red cheeks and red lips and voila! (don't mind my morning coffee!) Oh well... ...now... what to be next year? Make Your Own Mary Poppins Costume 13. The latchkey kid: Halloween Post No. 1. I've been catching up on several amazing Halloween-related posts, so I know I wasn't the only one who's had fun this weekend. :) Me and the Ginge decided to dress up last night for Bell's Halloween dinner and for our friends' show. Their band is called Ocoai, give 'em a whirl (especially if you're into instrumental-only music).

Without further adieu, here are the costumes: I had such a blast dressing up as one of my favorite characters, Mary Poppins. Bell's dinner was such a good time, and I'll post pictures of the event tomorrow. Happy Halloween, everyone! Costume Week // Day 5 // Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Today is another classic costume from a classic movie: Mary Poppins! There is a Whovian theory out there (that I subscribe to) saying that Mary Poppins is a Time Lady (lady Time Lord). A bag that's bigger on the inside, appearing out of nowhere, helping humans, funny hat, bow-tie, etc. I say it's canon! This costume was made completely out of things I had in my closet, with the exception of the hat accessories. I don't have fake cherries lying around. Check out the Super-Nanny-Time-Lady costume below! Mary Poppins's outfit is two basics that can be found in most closets: a black or blue skirt and a white button up. Just like with yesterday's Dorothy costume, it's all in the details.

Then just grab your black umbrella, giant bag and you're good to go dance with penguins in striped suits on a carousel! -lisa. Spit Spot - Here's looking at me kid. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend! This Halloween was perhaps the most fun yet. I bonfired and traipsed about Kent (which was absolutely flooded with elaborately appointed costumes and fabulous creatures) with my friends, and once again didn't shut my eyes until 6 a.m. Halloweens here are epic.

(Phil took these photos before we went out.) Part of the fun was that every one of the 30,000 people we passed in the streets seemed terribly excited to see me. They would call out after me (like I was a friend from their past, which I guess I kinda was...), take pictures with me, and ask me to sing Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. When I told my brother I was going to be Mary Poppins for Halloween, he said, "Oh? So did you dress up as anything for Halloween?

Here's how: Cut the top part of the dress off just under the arm pits. Cut up the back of the dress. If there is a seam cut it out. Depending on the size of the original dress, you may want to cut out a few extra inches. You should then have a big square-ish piece of fabric. Figure out how wide you want the top of your apron to be (mine was approx. 10 inches) and where you want the waist to fall (mine was approx. 11 inches from the top). You should now have an apron shaped piece of fabric. To make waist ties:Cut 2 strips of fabric 40 inches by 4 inches (you may have to sew 2 pieces together to get enough length)1.

To make the neck strap:Cut a strip of fabric 24 inches by 5 inches1. Stitch a button to the front of strap and a hidden hook closure. Optional: Embellish as desired. My puns are usually significantly more clever, I’ll let you know right now. This dress is a beautiful, burnt orange. The fabric is cotton blend jersey and I think it will be great for transitioning to autumn. If you are of above average height (comme moi) you will need a thick belt to bring the waist down so you don’t look like you’ve purchased a dress meant for a tween. I have no excuse for not posting this outfit last week as I had already taken the photos.

Striped Blazer Remix. On Monday, it was warm enough to wear a blazer as a coat and to wear flats without freezing my ankles off! Just a hint of spring before we get more snow this week. February is a bit of a tease sometimes. Anyway, I was excited to break out this blazer. This falls into an impulse buy that actually turned out to be a good decision. Today, I'm linking up with Ginny, Danielle, and Nicole for their "Many Days, Many Ways" theme. I love a good remix collage, so of course, I had to join in! Here are 7 ways I have worn this blazer through the spring, summer, fall, and winter.

Organizing Linens and Toiletries The top 3 shelves of the linen closet are below, there are 5 shelves total but my camera couldn't show all five. The top shelf contains my extra covers and sheets folded. Next shelf is all of my beach towels and colored hand towels that I use at the gym. The shelf after that has our bath and hand towels. The next pictures shows the bottom 2 shelves in my linen closet. The last two shelves hold all of my extra toiletries. The first thing that I did when I began organizing was go around the house and find containers that I could use to hold my toiletries.

The top shelf going from left to right, back to front, has cotton balls in a vase, q-tips in a bowl and my face cleaners lined up with a sticker labeling the facial products. The bottom shelf has lots of different things. Organizing. By Olivia Fleming Published: 17:58 GMT, 3 September 2013 | Updated: 18:07 GMT, 3 September 2013 For 365 days, a woman hoping to promote environmental sustainability in the fashion industry has vowed to only wear secondhand clothes.

Christina Dean, founder of ReDress, an eco-friendly, fashion-focused organization, is wearing '100% dumped and donated secondhand clothes' for the entirety of 2013- with the exception of her underwear and shoes, which are her own. Documenting each outfit on Get ReDressed, Ms Dean shows off slip dresses found 'perfectly clean' in a recycling bin, boyfriend jeans that simply needed a wash and on-trend liberty print shirts that appear brand new once ironed. ' The adventures of two (Pyrex crazy) thrifting sisters........ Happy Thursday! Hanna here! Erica and I are both getting ready for some very exciting weekends, but I want to share a few things I've had on the back burner first.

I guess I should say, as of January 16th, I have thrifted 0 new items in 2014. Can you believe that? To tell you the truth, I haven't been out looking as much as usual, but still, the number of times I've left GW empty handed is alarming. I even went one day and had to turn around and come home because their power was out. Well, before Christmas, actually on the same day as Crafty Wonderland, Erica, Maddie, and I took a stroll through Stars Antique Mall in Portland. Well, I knew I was in the clear because Erica obviously already has this set. I also forgot to share a few other little treasures Erica gifted me for Christmas.

So Erica picked me up a few vintage postcards that I've framed. I obviously needed one with cats having a party. But my most favorite is this one is, Alice and the Cheshire Cat. Always a Pleasure, Hanna. Thrifted things. Here ya go folks. More answers to follow sooooon. When did you first discover your passion for sewing/refashioning and how did you go about developing that talent? Who taught you how to sew? //I started thrifting when I was 13. But a lot of that thrifting was to fit in to what everyone else was wearing. During high school I think I really started developing my love for refashioning and finding things that were different and unique. For my 19th birthday my parents bought me a sewing machine and I just started sewing. I taught myself how to sew by trial and error. What's your favorite dessert? //Hands down grasshopper pie.
