Easter junk wreath. Teddy bear wreath. August 2013. Oops. I've missed a few weeks of posting. Turns out that life has been happening in big batches lately. It's all good, I've just been very busy. So even though it's been 114° here I have got Halloween on my mind. Halloween for my crafting, Halloween on Pinterest and Halloween on my Etsy shop shop. Check out a few of my latest items: My hubby tells me the zombie teddy bear is morbid, but I think he's cute...in a twisted sort of way. I came across a glass lantern at Michael's last week. Here's what you need: A bottle lantern. Styrofoam skull. Sculpy clay that cures in the oven Embossing powder and perfect medium straight pins (or floral pins) If your glass is wired in place you need to get the glass out. The skulls have a number on the back. I forgot to take a photo of the skull "before", but the photos above give you an idea of what they look like.

Rub the perfect medium all over the skull. With a brush put on the embossing powder. I used some craft paint to cover the dowel. Making a Patchwork Quilt. It means it’s time to get ready for St. Patrick’s Day with some GREEN inspiration starting with the first of several easy St. Patrick’s Day Crafts – a fun throw pillow! Now I am not rushing the holidays here. I will display my St.

Patricks Day crafts and decorations in March (as every proper Irish Gal should) ;) but I do know that YOU need time to plan ahead for these things and it’s my job to make sure that you are prepared. I love decorating for the holidays and the kids really like it too. So here’s the pillow. This is super simple and inexpensive to make and you can use whatever fabric you find at a craft store or that you already have. I used three pieces of fabric. One for the front: 16″ x 16″Two for the envelope overlapping back: 16″ x 12″ and 16″ x 10″. The extra inch gives me room for error the seams. Pinned that to the front piece of fabric… You can really use whichever stitch you like. DIY Sweater Recon: How to turn a large knit sweater into a smaller one. From Oversized, Thrifted Cardigan to Fitted Sweater in 30 Minutes ( and how to fix a snag on a knit top) I couldn't resist when I saw this beautiful, light-weight knit cardigan at the second hand store for $8.

I mean it's made out of 58% SILK and 42% cotton!! How luxurious is that? How would I ever be able to afford a knit silk cardi otherwise?? But here's the problem, this sweater was HUGE on me, and it had a big long snag on the back. So here's how I reconn'd it in about 30 minutes to turn it into a sleek fitted cardigan. Thrift store shopping is a great way to save some money, as well as being eco-friendly as you bypass the pollution that goes into the production and shipping of new clothing. So the first hurdle was to deal with the giant snag on the back: Yep. So how do you deal with a snagged knit sweater?

Step 1: Ok, first ask for a discount before you buy! Seriously, 9.5 out of 10 times this will get you a discount. Wanna know how good of a deal I got? And voila! Let's recap. How to Make Cloth Napkins from Scrap Fabric for Free! Wanna save some $$$ and the environment at the same time? A switch from paper to cloth napkins is a great way to save a few bucks, and reduce waste. Making your own napkins from scrap fabric is even cheaper and more eco-friendly than buying them. And it's super easy. If you can sew a reasonably straight line and have some extra fabric laying around - an old pillowcase, t-shirt, skirt, or project scraps you can make some super classy cloth napkins for free! Last month Tiffany from Don't Waste the Crumbs wrote a great post on how and why she switched her family from paper to cloth napkins. She bought a ton of cheap white dishcloths and hid the paper napkins.

I grew up in a family where both my prairie grandmothers served cloth napkins with every meal. 1. Since fabric napkins can be washed and reused a million times, so less waste goes into landfills.2. Also, cloth napkins are classier. So here we go. What You'll Need: Sewing machine or serger Matching or contrasting thread What to do: 1. 2.

Homemade tomato juice (and gazpacho) Howdy! I’ve been busy hatching plans, freaking out about said plans (just a little), and working on a few projects. Like making cloth napkins. Perhaps you can tell by the new banner that I tricked someone into letting me borrow their sewing machine. My dilemma was this: I love fabric, and if you ever turn me loose near a store-full of it, I will buy some. I also decided to make 1000 paper cranes, for good luck of course. In the kitchen, I attempted to make some roasted veggies tossed with olive oil, mint, and lemon. I blame the turnips. Also…squash cooks way faster. I also made some tomato juice. Anyway, you stir all of those tasty bits into your tomato juice and let it hang out in the fridge for a few hours.

Not this one, though. You might like: I bake bread almost every night. Mary poppins pattern. Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Let me start off by saying that I LOVE dressing up! So.... that makes Halloween one of my FAVORITE holidays. I always like to be something different each year (or else it gets too boring!) , however, I've compromised with having 3 different costumes. This way, I stay true to the Montessori 3 year cycle (and no kid sees my in the same costume the whole 3 years they're in my class). Last year I was Cat in the Hat which was a huge hit.

I knew I wanted to semi make my costume and... be something 'child-related' (being a teacher and all)... so... I made my bow tie, hat and skirt... I made my skirt using navy blue, light weight fabric and black elastic. As for the hat, I bought a black hat from the party store and glued daisies on it using a glue gun- also very simple. I had black shoes and black stockings. I put my hair in a low bun, gave myself some rosy red cheeks and red lips and voila!

(don't mind my morning coffee!) Oh well... ...now... what to be next year? Mary Poppins Eyelet Tote. This is a step by step sewing pattern to show you how to create a Mary Poppins Eyelet Tote Bag. DIY // In the Art Room: Making Mary Poppins. Why, hello thar! 'Tis I, wannabe Mary Poppins, practically (im)perfect in every way! Like many schools, mine celebrated Read Across America week with a "dress like a storybook character" day. Because we are currently learning about all things United Kingdom and I'm reading Mary Poppins to my second and fourth graders, deciding who I would dress like was as easy as taking my meds with a spoonful of sugar. Even if I did wanna dress as Sherlock Holmes for a could coupla days. But I didn't think my pipe-puffing would go over well with those party-poopin' principals in my building. So Mary 'twas! Whilst dressed as Mary, I tried my very best to keep my faux-British accent going as long as I could.

The thing my outfit was lacking was the famous parrot-headed brolly. As soon as I got home, I busted out the tin foil and started sculpting the parrots head. Ack! Time for tea! All week, leading up to the arrival of Mary Poppins, my classes enjoyed a spot of tea and biscuits. Pinkies out, dearies! ...a crafty balance...: Practically Perfect. After spending a lot of evenings working on Scout's costumes, I realized that I did not have anything for myself. And we actually had a Halloween party on the horizon. To that end, I took to Pinterest looking for ideas (it's my new Google for these types of things).

I fell in love with this Mary Poppins costume. When you go to pop-up Halloween costume shops you'll immediately notice that they trend toward more risque versions of Halloween regulars. I'm not going to go into too much detail, but seriously - you can basically be a dolled up version of anything (Elmo, Sponge Bob, etc.) in a tight, short skirt and thigh highs. From the get-go, I was pretty sure that this costume would be the polar opposite of that and all buttoned up. I thought I'd look quite out of place among the college girls downtown if we made it down there. The first step in pulling together a costume is, of course, research. . (1) The costume she wears when she first arrives at the Banks' home. (2) Her red coat. Make Your Own Mary Poppins Hat | Jayme Woods. In celebration of a jolly holiday (i.e. the release of Saving Mr.

Banks), I’ve decided it’s time to unleash this on the world: If you’re looking for a craft that’s practically perfect in every way, this Mary Poppins hat takes about 40 minutes (including time to obsessively photograph for the blog). You’ll need: *Cardstock (black and white) *Scissors *Tape *Hot Glue Gun *Optional: any other decorations you’d like (plastic cranberries, etc.) A compass is useful for drawing circles, but two pencils with a string tied between them will also do the trick. (1) Tape two pieces of cardstock together (one side only). (2) Draw one circle as largely as you can on the paper.

. (3) Cut out the inner circle. Admit it. . (4) Cut out the larger circle. What you have should now look like this: And this: (5) Remove the straight edges on either side of the remaining black cardstock. . (6) Fold the body pieces along their longer edges to make lips of about half an inch. . (7) Tape the body pieces together. Before: After: Files/2012/full-1.0.pdf. This is a much anticipated post.

Especially, since we finished the craft room almost two years ago. I never gave it the proper introduction to our loyal Sew Woodsy readers. Back in September, Mr. Woodsy picked up a side job and was gone the entire weekend. First off, the craft room is not large. *We have had a lot of people ask us what color the green wall is painted. Like I said, this is a small room. A few years back I posted about making my own fabric bolts… I needed a fabric storing solution so I could see all the fabric I owned. Here is what the other side of the craft room looks like. Mr. He also made me storage for stamps and such!

We also never blogged about the printer cart on casters that Mr. Mr. I hope you enjoyed taking a tour of my craft room. Share and Enjoy. Have you ever wanted to make a bed-sized crazy quilt but cringed at the thought of making fifty plus crazy pieced blocks? I don’t blame you; making that many blocks would be a serious time commitment. But there are several ways to increase the size of your end project without making (and embellishing) all those blocks.

You can easily increase the size of your crazy pieced project three ways: by adding sashing between the blocks and by changing the setting of your blocks and by adding borders along the outer edges. Most of you are aware that simply inserting sashing between your blocks will add to the width and length of your piece. Sashing can frame and highlight each individual block, helps square up the rows, can provide another area for embellishing and can provide an unobtrusive area for stabilizing the whole quilt top.

For instance, if you have nine 12” crazy pieced blocks and you put them together in a straight setting of three blocks in three rows, you have a 36” square piece. Täällä on nautittu tänään noista jälkimmäisistä. Ensin olin leikellyt yhden vanhan villakangastakin vajaa parikymmensenttisiksi pyörylöiksi.
