elisa strozyk: wooden carpet
first image wooden carpet image © designboom [d3] design talents , currently in its fourth year at imm cologne 2010 , is presenting a showcase of design projects by students, recent graduates, young professionals and design studios. it is divided into the three events: [d3] contest, [d3] professionals and [d3] schools. amongst many other invited talents, german textile designer elisa strozyk is showcasing her wooden textiles carpet made from veneer offcuts. her technique in creating this piece is to laser cut the veneer pieces and bond them onto fabric. the wooden carpet can lie flat on the floor, but can also be playfully positioned due to its surprisingly flexible form. conceptually, her work intends to look at materials in new ways. she is interested in re-evaluating our presumptions about the resources we use, especially as our environmental wealth continually diminishes today. wooden carpet, 0.06cm X 110cm X 210cm wooden carpet flat on the floorWhilst looking through Behance I discovered a female illustrator called Irina Vinnik from Saint Petersburg, Russia. Her illustrations immediately struck me as being fantastically detailed. Drawn in a moleskin they have a quiet unassuming quality that makes them even more interesting.
