Neon Genesis Evangelion Hits the VIZ Manga App » MTV Geek. You can get the first volume for free. Teen angst and fetish suits sold separately. I feel like Yoshiyuki Sadamoto's Neon Genesis Evangelion is the Catcher in the Rye of manga/anime titles. Whoa, hold up there--I'm not saying in terms of quality, that's a wholly debatable can of worms. I'm talking about how, in the years since its debut, the series which is ostensibly about giant mecha and apocalyptic tension seems to grab hold of the imagination of each subsequent set of new readers, really picking up for them what it means to be suffer through the ennui and confusion that comes with being a teenager.
Maybe it's because the series is embedded with so many easy-to-pick-up-but-still-clever religious and philosophical allusions that it feels like something that they can at once relate to and feel smart reading. For those of you not in the know, here's the official synopsis: Neon Genesis Evangelion will launch a new chapter weekly via the VIZ Manga App and through VIZManga.com. Yahoo. Mi canal. Grooveshark.
