RideThePlanet: Georgia. Photos de Andy Welch. Bolivia Set to Pass Historic 'Law of Mother Earth' Which Will Grant Nature Equal Rights to Humans. With the cooperation of politicians and grassroots organizations, Bolivia is set to pass the Law of Mother Earth which will grant nature the same rights and protections as humans. The piece of legislation, called la Ley de Derechos de la Madre Tierra, is intended to encourage a radical shift in conservation attitudes and actions, to enforce new control measures on industry, and to reduce environmental destruction. The law redefines natural resources as blessings and confers the same rights to nature as to human beings, including: the right to life and to exist; the right to continue vital cycles and processes free from human alteration; the right to pure water and clean air; the right to balance; the right not to be polluted; and the right to not have cellular structure modified or genetically altered.

In late 2005 Bolivia elected its first indigenous president, Evo Morales. Bolivia's successes or failures with implementation may well inform the policies of countries around the world. Hans Heiner Buhr par grijsz. James B. Glattfelder: Who controls the world? What a Nice Virus. The house remix of Robin Thicke's “My Life.” Its writer sent it to me just now. The bass line reminds me a little bit of Derrick May. There are many interesting things about this tune. For starters, it's Robin Thicke, who is so channeling Michael Jackson. If you think about how the African American singing voice is the dominant mode, and that forms are like viruses, you can see that Thicke somehow was fantastically susceptible to it.

I mean I grew up with Jay K from Jamiroquai (my brother was nearly his drummer, sad), who was channeling somewhat. But this is just extraordinary. When I first heard the tune on the credits to Despicable Me, I assumed that it was indeed from the later 70s, so deft was the simulation. And who can't like a song about meeting one's perfect mate on the dancefloor (I did), superimposed on imagery of the lovable villain falling for the little orphan girls? The 4 Personality Types Every Startup Needs. The 4 Personality Types Every Startup Needs Anyone can have a killer startup idea, but in order to make that idea succeed you’ll need an unbeatable team. Crafting the perfect team is an art -- one we're constantly trying to refine at my startup, Boundless. We’ve found that a structured process yields the best new hires. This starts with first understanding the skills we need to fill. But we don’t just try to fit anyone with the right experience into a role - we go further and search for the right personality for the position as well.

Throughout the entire hiring process, we’re constantly looking for signs of the four most important startup personalities: The Beast, Lara Croft, The Architect, and The Most Interesting Man in the World. Our initial process is probably quite similar to many other startups. However, the final step is a little different. Ferris is the author of several books describing how to do things in 4 hours, as well as a world-class tango dancer, a television host, and actor. He is a guest lecturer at Princeton on entrepreneurship, and he is a cage fighter, among many other things. Where does he find the time for all of this? Ferriss also happens to be an advocate for avoiding busywork through outsourcing or automation, as well as finding new and innovative ways for more efficient learning. After hearing about how Mr. Ferriss goes about living life, I am quite intrigued. It may not need to be said, but Ferriss doesn't subscribe to traditional ways of learning or making. Ferriss says that his books have an altruistic ulterior motive, but that won't necessarily make them sell. A book titled The 4-Hour Work Week was his ticket into mainstream media.

Mongolia at 1:2,000,000 on an indexed map from Gizi Map with its road network shown on the base with bold altitude colouring indicating its physical geography. The map includes a street plan of central Ulaanbaatar annotated with hotels and places of interest. Names of larger towns and selected smaller locations, as well as of many topographic features are also shown in Cyrillic alphabet.

The map provides a very fine presentation of the country’s geography through bold altitude colouring and graphics for salt flats, swamps, etc, plus numerous spot heights and plenty of names of mountain ranges and peaks. National parks and other protected areas are highlighted. Road network indicates country tracks, gives distances on main routes, and shows locations of border crossings. By Adam Newman Riders are always looking for new challenges and new places to ride their bikes. Adventure touring and bike-packing are two of the fastest-growing segments of the industry, and like every year, the North American Handmade Bike Show is setting trends that the rest of the industry is likely to soon follow.

Though adventures can be had on any bike, more and more riders are designing, building, and riding bikes specifically designed around touring or racing on unpaved roads or rough terrain. Not quite mountain bikes, they often incorporate aspects of cyclocross and traditional touring bikes to make them more versatile. Rigid forks, disc brakes, 29-inch wheels, and soft-sided luggage are common sights.

Here are some of the adventure touring bikes we saw at NAHBS 2013 here in Denver, Colorado. Moots Moots designed and built this bike for a customer who plans on racing the Colorado Trail Race and then continuing on for even more adventures. English Cycles Cielo Stinner Ellis Soulcraft. Mashasada.me. Niccolò Machiavelli. Niccolò di Bernardo dei Machiavelli (Italian: [nikkoˈlɔ makjaˈvɛlli]; 3 May 1469 – 21 June 1527) was an Italian historian, politician, diplomat, philosopher, humanist, and writer based in Florence during the Renaissance. He was for many years an official in the Florentine Republic, with responsibilities in diplomatic and military affairs. He was a founder of modern political science, and more specifically political ethics. He also wrote comedies, carnival songs, and poetry. His personal correspondence is renowned in the Italian language. "Machiavellianism" is a widely used negative term to characterize unscrupulous politicians of the sort Machiavelli described in The Prince. Life[edit] Machiavelli was born in a tumultuous era—popes waged acquisitive wars against Italian city-states, and people and cities often fell from power.

Machiavelli was taught grammar, rhetoric, and Latin. Between 1503 and 1506, Machiavelli was responsible for the Florentine militia. Works[edit] The Prince[edit] Society of the Spectacle. Guy Debord 1967 Written: 1967;Translation: Black & Red, 1977;Transcription/HTML Markup: Greg Adargo. Chapter 1 “Separation Perfected” But certainly for the present age, which prefers the sign to the thing signified, the copy to the original, representation to reality, the appearance to the essence... illusion only is sacred, truth profane. Nay, sacredness is held to be enhanced in proportion as truth decreases and illusion increases, so that the highest degree of illusion comes to be the highest degree of sacredness.

Feuerbach, Preface to the second edition of The Essence of Christianity In societies where modern conditions of production prevail, all of life presents itself as an immense accumulation of spectacles. Everything that was directly lived has moved away into a representation. The images detached from every aspect of life fuse in a common stream in which the unity of this life can no longer be reestablished. Separation is the alpha and omega of the spectacle. Using Kickstarter to Raise Money for your Art. Using Kickstarter to make fine art without galleries or grand committees or gazillionaires. Five Tips for Artists Using Kickstarter. Beth Pohlman is an ACC jewelry artist who's in the midst of a kickstarter campaign to raise funds to create her work for our 2013 Baltimore show. We asked her to write about the experience so far, and she also offers a few tips for other artists considering doing a campaign.

Back in September, after weeks of low-level anxiety and constant email checking, I finally got my results from the American Craft Council jury: I got in! I'll be doing the Wholesale-Retail section at the ACC's Baltimore show in February, where I will introduce my granulated jewelry to the world! I jumped up and down. I sang a victory song. I sat down and did some math, figuring out how much material I would need to make enough work to really knock people’s socks off. Kickstarter is a crowd-funding site for people who are doing creative projects. Here are some things I’ve learned that might help if you are considering doing a Kickstarter campaign: It takes a lot of work to get the campaign ready to launch. Using Kickstarter to jumpstart your art career | TheArtCareerProject.com. Ah the Internet. What a simultaneously wonderful and terrifying place.

One moment you can experience a random act of kindness from a complete stranger halfway across the world. The next you could be getting cyber-bullied by anonymous commentators who it seem want nothing more than to make you feel terrible about yourself. Kickstarter is one of the websites that falls in the former category and the crowd-funding website has rapidly become one of the most popular places for aspiring artists, musicians, and writers to raise funds for their project and promote their work and talent. The website was only born in 2009 and really didn’t receive major acclaim until the following year. It used to be that only artists with the resources, support, and infrastructure were able to create works and projects for public consumption, but Kickstarter has leveled the playing field by allowing for anyone with a creative idea to seek out funding from people interested in the arts.

Security researchers at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany have shown that they can extract photos, surfing history, and contact lists from Android smartphones, even if the phone is locked and the disk is encrypted. The software, called FROST, has been open-sourced by the researchers and is reasonably easy to use, if you’re interested in replicating the results. There is a caveat, though: As the name suggests, you need to put the phone in the freezer first. The attack vector used by Tilo Müller, Michael Spreitzenbarth, and Felix Freiling is referred to as a cold boot attack.

Cold booting (or hard booting) is where you reboot a system by cutting the power completely, and then turning back on. When you restart a computer normally (i.e. a warm reboot), there are usually processes in place that clear/sanitize the system’s memory — but by cold booting and bypassing these processes, the contents of any RAM are preserved. “But RAM is volatile,” you decry. Jaws of Life - Buck 65. Slow Quest. Bermondsey to Borough | In Search of Space. My second urban wander last week was from Bermondsey to Borough, when I was fortunate enough to be travelling back from docklands towards the city around 5pm, with time to spare to jump off the tube early and continue at least some of my journey on foot.

I chose Bermondsey as I had a loose idea that I might find the road that featured in the BBC TV series/book The Secret History of Our Streets: London but as I'd not properly prepared for this I had no recollection of what it was called or where it was ... for future reference I it's Reverdy Road. Instead however I drifted westwards from Bermondsey tube station, in the vague direction of home, but with no real idea where I was going or what I planned to see. The first section of my walk was a fairly uninspiring trek down the busy Jamaica Road. The first point of interest which caught my eye was a brick wall which shielded the road from the river below. On Thomas Pynchon's Mason and Dixon, Part 3 [includes Topics and a Map] Large conclusions seem inappropriate for this present stage of earliness in our reception of this wonder-filled new gift from Pynchon. We need to keep our discussions as open and wide-ranging and undogmatic as possible, to place the novel's comic and tragic world views in continual juxtaposition.

We need to keep our humility and our sense of humor about us as well, even as we try for readings as ambitious as the novel clearly is. We need to meditate on the irony that Pynchon's deepest exploration of aging and mortality may be also the novel whose humor is freest and most liberated, the book in which Pynchon is able to satirize most trenchantly those personal and artistic traits---creative paranoia and a mania for invisibility---for which he is most notorious. Instead of further "conclusions" I offer below some questions and topics for further thought directly relevant to the issues I have raised here: Note also that an on-line concordance to Mason and Dixon is being assembled.
