With Professor John Ochsendorf This class is an introduction to structural design for architecture students (both graduate and undergraduate) and undergraduate structural engineering students.
In addition to standard structural theory, the class emphasizes structural design history, new design applications, and graphical analysis and design techniques. The syllabus includes cables, arches, columns, trusses, beams, frames, materials, lateral systems, and connections. Students complete multiple projects throughout the semester, including two design-build-test projects using balsa wood, and a final design project for a long-span roof.
