We do not have computers or tablets in the classroom, only computer labs which are used for computing classes mainly. My first step was to open an account in Edmodo, the educational platform for teachers, in order to protect my students’ online identity. Last year, the fact that 100% of my students had a Smartphone (except for me as I just bought one) was a double advantage. Anyway, I am proud to say that these children responded wonderfully! Brown spent a week at Za’atari in August, running workshops to teach the children - both girls and boys aged 14 to 18 – how to capture and process images on an iPhone. “When you’re a foreign reporter, you tend to photograph camps like Za'atari in a certain way – from the perspective as an outsider,” said Brown.
