Using Cell Phones in the Classroom When Computers Are Not Available. Congratulations Fabiana! Click this image and “like” the facebook image to vote for Fabiana! That is why I would like to share my work with my two secondary school groups with as many teachers as possible. Internet and Technology in the Classroom have made a huge change in my daily teaching experience. My story starts right after my first online presentation for The Future of Education Reform Symposium 2013, (RSCON4) where I was kindly invited to participate by Shelly Sanchez Terrell.

We do not have computers or tablets in the classroom, only computer labs which are used for computing classes mainly. My first step was to open an account in Edmodo, the educational platform for teachers, in order to protect my students’ online identity. Last year, the fact that 100% of my students had a Smartphone (except for me as I just bought one) was a double advantage. Anyway, I am proud to say that these children responded wonderfully! How did I learn how to integrate cell phones in my teaching? Syrian teenagers work with top iPhone photographer to produce their own portrait of life in a refugee camp | Jordan | Save the Children. Save the Children has launched a unique online gallery of images captured by Syrian refugee teenagers on mobile phones. The BBC launch is online now, under the following slideshow: The iPhone photography project – facilitated by Michael Christopher Brown, a member of world-class Magnum Photos and renowned for his work using iPhones - paints a new and unique portrait of life in Za’atari refugee camp, Jordan.

The teenagers, working alongside Save the Children, have created a dedicated Tumblr feed for the project, which will continue to be updated over the next year to give a snapshot of life in the camp. Brown spent a week at Za’atari in August, running workshops to teach the children - both girls and boys aged 14 to 18 – how to capture and process images on an iPhone. “When you’re a foreign reporter, you tend to photograph camps like Za'atari in a certain way – from the perspective as an outsider,” said Brown. How virtual reality lets us see the Syrian refugee crisis with fresh eyes | International Rescue Committee (IRC) The civil war in Syria – now in its sixth year – has sparked the largest global displacement of people since World War II.

Nearly one in four people in Lebanon is a Syrian refugee. Half of those are children. Most of the 1.5 million Syrians in this country roughly the size of New Jersey struggle to lead a normal life without a home, a proper job, or a chance at education. To illustrate the harsh reality Syrians face, the International Rescue Committee partnered with virtual reality (VR) production company YouVisit and actor, writer and producer Rashida Jones to produce its first VR film, called “Four Walls.”

We sat down with IRC executive producer Cathe Neukum to discuss how virtual reality is changing the way we tell stories. Q: How did virtual reality come about at the IRC? Technology is always growing; it’s not static, so neither should be our storytelling approach. When you’re watching a traditional video, you’re able to multi-task. So, where do Syrian refugees live?
