Cucumber Raspberry Vodka Sparklers. Cucumber Raspberry Vodka Sparklers I went into this post practically kicking and screaming today. Let’s be honest- sometimes the words flow, other times it’s a task just to get myself to sit in the chair long enough to post a few words and photos. This whiny, kicking and screaming, can’t-even-stand-myself feeling seems to be a Labor Day holiday signature of mine.

See, the holiday represents the end of summer. It would seem that the feelings of that 9 year old, who can’t come to terms with her new backpack and Trapper Keeper have followed me to adulthood. My Oh My. I hope you all have a lovely Labor Day weekend. Cucumber Raspberry Vodka Sparklers makes 4 cocktails. do share. inspired by Martha Stewart Print this Recipe! Incidentially, I wish these were diamonds. Sweet Peach Lassi. How can something so tasty be SO easy.

Just throw it all in the blender, let it whirl and you have a a gorgeous lassi! This is what I made my boys for breakfast this morning. Peaches and a bit of honey sweeten the tangy yogurt. Pour it in beautiful little glasses you can serve it as dessert after an Indian feast or a light picnic on the patio. The recipe comes from my friend Suvir’s book, Indian Home Cooking. I switched to peaches from his traditional mango and replaced the sugar with honey, otherwise it is all his! Lassi from Indian Home Cooking by Suvir Saran Serves 4 to 6 3 cups plain yogurt (I used whole milk yogurt but you can replace that with your favorite) Juice of 1/2 lemon 2 ripe peaches (I washed them and left the skin on) 10 ice cubes 1/4 cup sugar (I used 4 tablespoons honey) Put all the ingredients in the blender and process until frothy and the ice cubes are crushed into small pieces.

Name This Drink! Ending Strawberry Week with a bang, I made Strawberry Margaritas last weekend. A lot of them. One at a time. For several people. That meant a lot of lime-juicing. Only one problem remained – what do we call this new concoction? I’d love to do a real contest with a real giveway but 1) I don’t have any great prizes and 2) I’d probably have to come up with all sorts of rules and disclaimers and legalese. At any rate, what do you call it besides delicious? Malibu Coconut RumWhite Rum (optional, depends on how much of a kick you want)Club SodaSimple Syrup (or sugar)StrawberriesLime Wedge Slice a couple of strawberries. Put them in a tallish glass and add a little simple syrup. Muddle it all together until the berries are pureed. Fill the glass with ice. Add a shot of Malibu and, if you want, a shot of Bacardi. Fill the glass with club soda and squeeze in a lime wedge. Garnish with a strawberry. Problem solved! We also created a Kids Version by substituting Cream of Coconut for the Malibu.

Peach Breeze. I love fruity drinks, whether it’s a sangria, a mojito or the concoction known, at least around here, as The Tasty Strawberry Beverage. Since summer fruits are my favorites, they make the best drinks, including this variation on the strawberry drink. Just like the strawberry version, this one is good in it’s virgin form too. Just leave out the rum for a light summer refreshment. PeachesCoconut RumWhite RumSimple Syrup or Superfine SugarClub Soda Slice a peach and put a couple of slices in the bottom of a glass and add a bit of sugar or simple syrup.

Muddle it all up to mix in all the yummy peach flavor. Add a shot of coconut rum. Add a little white rum. Top it with club soda. Float a peach slice on top. When the drink is gone, be sure to eat the rum-soaked fruit. Tagged as: drink, peach, rum. Peach Cooler Recipe. It’s week two for Summer Fest 2009 and this week’s theme is stone fruits!

Mojitos. Sangria. Margaritas. Mudslide Cocktail. As I write this my husband is downstairs putting away Christmas decorations, my kids are playing with their Christmas presents, and I’m still in bed enjoying a morning of sleeping in and reading in bed. It’s hard to believe it was exactly one year ago we were saying our final goodbyes to my dad as he lay at peace in a funeral home. Boy, what a year it has been. For the last two weeks we’ve been hosting family, parties, and lounging.

Christmas Eve with fifty extended family members, Christmas Day with my immediate family, and with no plans for New Year’s Eve other than to enjoy the presence of each other, I’m looking forward for this year of transitions and major life changes to close. When my dad died I decided to re-prioritize how I spent and devoted my time. Tempted by several media trips to far off exotic places around the world, I would end up politely declining all but two trips because I committed to not travel throughout this year.

Wishing you a Happy New Year. Alice Prep time: Strawberry and Kumquat Caipirinha. A sharper and fruitier version of a Mojito the Caipirinha is made with the South American rum Cachaca. Less sweet than its, Carribean cousin, Cachaca, is the star of this sweet an sour drink. The kumquats add an extra sour punch, while strawberry juice lends a sweet body to the Caipirinha. Strawberry and Kumquat Caipirinha I have to admit, I’ve actually never had Caipirinha until a few days ago when Russell of Endless Simmer requested a Caipirinha popsicle. That provided me the perfect excuse to buy. . .well, more booze.

In comparing the classic Mojito vs Caipirnha, at first glance I wasn’t expecting a huge difference in taste. A few notes: This is a summer deviation from the classic Caipirinha.I skipped the simple syrup portion, as the strawberries were sweet enough. Strawberry and Kumquat Caipirinha Makes 3 servings Ingredients: 7 oz strawberries (approximately 8-9 medium size)2 oz kumquatsJuice of half a lime4 mint leaves4 oz of Cachaca Instructions: Leave a Comment. Raspberry Refresher. Raspberry Refresher ~ The balance of this drink is good, the taste is affirmative in being well balanced between the sweet tartness of the raspberries and the sometimes overshadowing flavor of the gin. Raspberry Refresher If you’re looking for stiff drinks and classics cocktails, this Summer Cocktail Series will not be your happy hunting ground.

Summer time is high fruit season and a lot of what I drink or eat at this time centers around that. Most of mixed drinks you’ll see in this series will have a majority share in fruit with some cocktailing around it. Let me know in the comment section if you have a fruit you want to see featured in this series. Raspberry Refresher Makes 2 drinks Ingredients: 8 oz. limeade5-6 sprigs of mint½ cup raspberries4 oz gin1 oz grenadine Instructions: Muddle mint in limeade. Leave a Comment. Sweet Tea Bourbon Cocktails. I’d smile at rum. Coy… but not really coy. I’d say hello to vodka. I’d wave, and smile with teeth. I’d totally make out with gin… tonic and lime everywhere. But bourbon. Little itty bitty kitchen peek. What is pleasantly cropped out of this picture is my cat in the kitchen sink attacking the dirty kitchen sponge. Livin’ classy. I’m fairly certain that we’re approaching the time of year when it’s reasonable to drink uncanny amounts of sweetener in cold, black tea.

It seems only natural to add fresh mint, muddled orange and bourbon. This cocktail is simple, uncomplicated, refreshing, easy to drink, and a really lovely celebration of mid-spring. You know it’s going to be summer soon, right? Sweet Tea Bourbon Cocktail with fresh mint and orange Print this Recipe! 6 cups water 4 or 5 black tea bags 1/4 cup agave syrup (honey will do too) 1/4 to 1/2 cup bourbon (depending on how strong you want your cocktail) 4 to 6 sliced orange rounds 6 sprigs fresh mint lots of ice Bring water to a boil. Strawberry Wine Coolers. Wine coolers are such a great idea, but somewhere along the way they've gone horribly awry. Fruit + wine should be delicious, but a commercial wine cooler is cloyingly sweet and artificial tasting. And just yucky. The genius Lee Brothers, Matt and Ted, set out to right the wrong, and created these delicious, fruity, and balanced drinks. These are incredibly simple and fresh: strawberry puree, a splash of vodka, and a dry Reisling.

When I have friends over for dinner, or throw a party, I like to have kind of a "signature drink," whether its a mixed drink, special bottle of wine, or a fun and fruity frozen drink. Strawberry Wine CoolersSimple, Fresh, Southern by Matt Lee and Ted Leeserves 61 pound fresh strawberries, rinsed and hulled2 ounces vodkagenerous pinch of kosher salt2 750-mL bottles off-dry white wine, such as an American Reisling, chilledKeep 6 strawberries for garnish, and combine the rest in a blender with the vodka, salt, and 2 scant cups of the wine. Recipe Remix: Peach Wine Coolers. So often in my write-up for a recipe, I comment that it is open to many adaptations. I thought it would be a fun feature if I actually started sharing those adaptations with you. Oftentimes I will make the recipe again and use it in a completely different way, or change the flavors, or find a creative use for leftovers. I never thought to post about it, but now I will! For example, I sometimes save a little filling from enchiladas, mix it with a little sauce, then top with cheese and bake it.

It makes a really delicious dip! But today's recipe remix is for the strawberry wine coolers I posted several weeks ago. Just like the strawberry counterpart, peach wine coolers are a little bit sweet, a little bit dry, and a lot delicious. I've made these a few times since, and I have to say, I think I like the peach variation even better than the strawberry. One Year Ago:A Duo of Goat Cheese BruschettaPeach Wine Coolersinspired by The Lee Bros. Barefoot Bloggers: Mango-Banana Daiquiris. I was super excited when I saw this month's first Barefoot Bloggers recipe. I absolutely love mango! And while I'm generally not a huge huge fan of frozen drinks (I mean, I'll drink them of course, but they aren't my favorite), mango daiquiris take me back to our honeymoon to St. Lucia. We stayed at the best resort, Ti Kaye Village, and I had one (or 2) mango daiquiris every day. I had initially planned on making these on Sunday for us to take to the pool with us, but never got around to buying rum on Saturday, and of course Georgia has the ridiculous no-alcohol-sales-on-Sunday law.

Thanks again to Veronica of Supemarket Serenade for picking a great recipe, and for allowing me to take a trip down memory lane. Mango Banana Daiquiris adapted from Barefoot Contessa, Back to Basics Add 2 cups of ice and process again until smooth and thick. And here is a picture of me enjoying some mango daiquiris at lunch on our honeymoon :-) Blueberry Rum Spritzer. Three days ago my husband and I quickly ate breakfast as we dashed for our car and headed downtown at 8:45 a.m..

Pleasantly surprised by not encountering much commuter traffic, we pulled our car into an alley parking garage off of Stewart. Holding hands, we walked up a few stairs into a high rise building only to separate for a few minutes. Me? I headed straight for the Godiva coffee shop calling out to me from the lobby while Rob continued to walk up another flight of stairs to the elevator hub.

Moments later I reunited with him in a small office overlooking Puget Sound and the west side of downtown. We sat down and we started the process of signing escrow papers on the house we’ve lived in shortly after being married eleven years ago. We always thought we would only live in this home for a few years. Yesterday I waited all day for a phone call from my husband to be ready at a moment’s notice to drive to Bellevue during rush hour to repeat the process of signing escrow papers, again.

Sparkling Raspberry Lemonade Punch…. I whipped this up a couple of years ago for a party and time and time again, it never fails. Always delicious, quick and refreshing -a real crowd-pleaser! This would be great for outdoor parties when you need something cold and not too heavy or sweet; it could also be dressed up as a cocktail for a nice dinner party. I just love it…. Sparkling Raspberry Lemonade Punch 1 12-ounce can frozen raspberry lemonade concentrate, thawed 1 bottle white wine (I like Chardonnay) 1 liter ginger ale ice fresh raspberries, lemons or limes for garnish Stir all ingredients together in a large pitcher.
