Working with #Toxiclibs - #Processing tutorial by Amnon Owed. Digital Natives - Matthew Plummer-Fernandez. Digital Natives 2012 z-corp powder composite and z-corp tinted binder Everyday items such as toys and a watering can are 3D scanned using a digital camera and subjected to algorithms that distort, abstract and taint them into new primordial vessel forms.

In some cases only close inspection reveals traces inherited from their physical predecessors. These are then 3D printed on a z-corp printer. Vessels are arguably the lowest common denominator for man-made objects across all cultures, these objects however have no storage function other than to embody the stored digital data that describes them. 2D SuperShapes [Processing] - Explore minimal and beautiful object transformations

We have already written about supershapes on CAN but in Flash form and 3D. What I especially enjoy about these experiments is their simplicity and boldness. Ability to play with parameters allows you to explore simple transformation, not necessarily always knowing what will come next. Reza writes: Recently, I have been exploring SuperShapes, which are organic shapes that are rendered by evaluating the superformula with different parameters. Audio Visualization Final Project ECE 5760 Michael Lyons mpl56 Darbin Reyes der34 Introduction The goal of our project was to input a signal in the DE2 board, whether it be music, conversation, or noise, and be able to analyze the signal to display visuals on the VGA output in real time.

High Level Design The critical path of this project was to take an input signal from the audio codec and then send this signal through various calculation and visualization modules to produce an output on the VGA display. The audio signal is also sent into three low pass chebychev filters each with a different cutoff frequency for their respective ranges of: bass, cymbal, and voice.

At the same time the audio input enters the three filters the signal also goes into an absolute value unit and then a height mapping unit. Figure 1: High Level Flow Diagram After the filtering, period calculation, and height mapping the audio signal is then sent into three different display modules selectable by the user. The installation is one of many pieces that allow visitors to experience the oceanic wonders of New Zealand from the dynamic of the surface waters all the way down into Kermadec Trench which plunges 10,000 meters deep. In March 2013, Robert Hodgin (flight404) was contacted by Rawstorne Studio and PleasureKraft to create a real-time simulation of a feeding frenzy seen on the BBC, Discover Channel, or National Geographic documentaries about the ocean.

Created by by Hansi Raber, SoundyThingie is an iPad application that translates drawn lines into sound.

SoundyThingie [iPad, oF, Mac, Windows] - Sound by lines.. // by Hansi Raber

The lines can be modified in a variety of ways including the vertical position of a line which determines it’s pitch, lines at the top of the screen sound high, lines at the bottom sound low and drawing speed determines volume. The faster you draw, the louder a line will be. In addition, there are a number of buttons to press and knobs to turn to influence individual sounds and you can move the lines or connect them together. Soundythingie began life as “controlling other properties” example provided by Zach Lieberman during the OpenFrameworks Workshop at Fabrica.

Hansi also created a Windows and Mac version of Soundythingie which are available for download at Linien Musik (see movie below). Platform: iPad Version: 1.0 Cost: $2.99 Developer: Hansi Raber See also Sonic Wire Sculptor which is currently available for the iPhone and very soon for the iPad. Related. Soundythingie.
