The Medusae Collection. These translucent creatures floating overhead will provide a certain ethereal ambiance to any dinner party.

The Medusae Collection

The Medusae Collection is a series of creative lamps by Roxy Russell Design, who suggests that, with these, you can “add a little underwater illumination to your space.” The lamps provide a soft glow overhead while the beautiful design is a constant reminder of the mystical world that lives below the surface of the sea. Roxy Russell is fascinated with the ocean and she says it is “a boundless source of inspiration” for many of her designs.

This project is a way for the artist to pay tribute to the vast, watery expanse that covers a majority of the earth’s surface, while also bringing an awareness to the growing problem of pollution that occurs in our oceans. The lamps are actually formed out of plastics themselves, but Russell explains that the importance is not the material itself, but the way in which we use it and then choose to reuse and recycle it. DIY Houses by Night

:) A little town at night.. isn’t it sweet?! There are a few tricks to making this DIY a success, all to do with finding the perfect image. 1. What you’re looking for is a picture of a house/castle/building that’s taken front-on (perspective works, but not as well). 2. 3. 4. 5. I was lucky enough to have found some old photo books at a market in Germany that hold some of the coolest black and white photos from the War era.. perfect for a project like this one! Here’s what you’ll need: **Note: Use only Battery powered tea lights ! Step 1: You want to start cutting and finish cutting at around the same height on either side of your picture. Step 2: Trim away any other areas you don’t want, but don’t trim the sides yet.

ICD/ITKE Research Pavilion 2012

This interdisciplinary project, conducted by architectural and engineering researchers of both institutes together with students of the faculty and in collaboration with biologists of the University of Tübingen, investigates the possible interrelation between biomimetic design strategies and novel processes of robotic production. Following a “bottom-up” approach, a wide range of different subtypes of invertebrates were initially investigated in regards to the material anisotropy and functional morphology of arthropods.
