SERC - Professional Training: Internship Program in Environmental Studies

More intern stories >>Program DescriptionThe Smithsonian Environmental Research Center's (SERC) Internship Program offers undergraduate and beginning graduate students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the fields of environmental research and education. This program enables students to work on specific projects under the direction of SERC's professional staff and is tailored to provide the maximum educational benefit to each participant. Since 2001 the SERC internship program has been designated a REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) site by the National Science Foundation. The specific dates and duration of the internship appointment are arranged between the supervisor and the student.

Each summer, we host more than 200 internships representing almost every Museum department. In addition, there are numerous internships that take place during the academic year. I'm interested in an internship at The Field Museum, but where do I begin? There are 3 different paths you can take to search for an internship: 1. A lot of our internships are simply created by a student expressing interest in being an intern. 3.

Announcements SULI Program Overview The Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (SULI) program encourages undergraduate students to pursue science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers by providing research experiences at the Department of Energy (DOE) laboratories.

Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internships (SULI) Homepage

Selected students participate as interns appointed at one of 16 participating DOE laboratories. They perform research, under the guidance of laboratory staff scientists or engineers, on projects supporting the DOE mission. The SULI program is sponsored and managed by the DOE Office of Science’s, Office of Workforce Development for Teachers and Scientists (WDTS) in collaboration with the DOE laboratories. Applications for the SULI program are solicited annually for three separate internship terms.

Research Internships. Research Experience for Undergraduates Summer Internship Program The Danforth Plant Science Center’s REU summer Internship program is held eleven weeks each summer and exposes students to a rich research environment.

Research Internships

The program gives students experience with all aspects of modern scientific research, from design to experimentation to reporting. Faculty mentors and staff provide insight into the personal qualities that make a good researcher, the process and training involved in becoming a scientist, and the broader impact of scientific discovery. The program is made possible through generous support from the National Science Foundation, The Hearst Foundations and Bank of America.
