Obamacare support craters. Congress Told Obamacare Violates Pro-Life Conscience Rights. By Steven Ertelt | Washington, DC | LifeNews.com | 11/2/11 1:02 PM Members of Congress heard from panelists today in a hearing who told them that the insurance mandate the Obama administration is likely to add to the Obamacare health care reform law will violate conscience rights of pro-life advocates.

The Obama administration has initially approved a recommendation from the Institute of Medicine suggesting that it force insurance companies to pay for birth control and drugs that can cause abortions under the Obamacare government-run health care program. The IOM recommendation, opposed by pro-life groups, called for the Obama administration to require insurance programs to include birth control — such as the morning after pill or the ella drug that causes an abortion days after conception — in the section of drugs and services insurance plans must cover under “preventative care.” Rep. Jane G. Jon O’Brien of Catholics for Choice also submitted testimony in favor of the HHS regulations.

Democratic-Leaning Poll Shows Overwhelming Opposition to Obamacare. The October Kaiser Health Tracking poll shows that, by a margin of 17 percentage points, Americans have an “unfavorable” (51 percent), rather than “favorable” (34 percent) opinion of Obamacare. This margin of opposition is all the more remarkable because the poll by Kaiser, a strong supporter of Obamacare, is skewed notably to the left. It included only 22 percent Republicans to 32 percent Democrats, even though exit polling in the last election showed an even split in party identification (35 percent apiece). The poll is chock-full of bad news for Obamacare. It shows that Obamacare is supported by fewer than a third of all independents (32 percent), barely over a tenth of all Republicans (11 percent), and — most amazingly — barely over half of all Democrats (52 percent).

Kaiser writes that Obamacare’s 34 percent level of support is “a low point in Kaiser tracking polls since the law was passed.” Kaiser Poll: Opposition to Obamacare Hits Highest Point. Americans' opposition to President Barack Obama's healthcare reform has reached its highest point since the law passed in March 2010, according to a monthly poll by the nonprofit, nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation. The view of the law has been roughly evenly split since its passage, but this month, 51 percent said they had an unfavorable opinion, while 34 percent said their opinion was favorable, poll results released Friday showed.

In September, the split was 43 percent to 41 percent. And October's gap is closest to the one the poll tracked in July 2010, when the division was 50 percent to 35 percent. The gap widened largely because the law appeared to be falling out of favor with Democrats, whose support dropped to its lowest point of 52 percent from 65 percent in September. The Kaiser Health Tracking Poll surveyed a nationally representative random sample of 1,223 Americans 18 and older between October 13 and 18 through telephone interviews. . © 2014 Thomson/Reuters.
