Image Scaling using Deep Convolutional Neural Networks — Flipboard Engineering

I worked on machine learning based problems, one of which was Image Upscaling. This post will show some preliminary results, discuss our model and its possible applications to Flipboard’s products. High quality and a print-like finish play a key role in Flipboard’s design language. We want users to enjoy a consistent and beautiful experience throughout all of Flipboard’s content, as if they had a custom print magazine in hand. Providing this experience consistently is difficult. When we display images on either the web or mobile devices they must be above a certain threshold to display well. Simple Effects for Drop-Down Lists

View demo Download source Today we want to share some simple drop-down list effects with you. The idea is to transform a normal select input into something more appealing with a jQuery plugin. The expanding of the options will happen with a transition and parameters can be configured in a way to achieve unique effects. After the great custom drop-down list styles made by Hugo in his tutorial Custom Drop-Down List Styling, we wanted to make it simple to create a custom structure from a normal select input (without multiple option selection). Please note that the CSS transforms and transitions only work in browsers that support them. Without JavaScript, the normal select input will simply be shown. The icon font was created with IcoMoon. So, we start out with a select input, for example: Benefactor Group sur Twitter : "Learning from @RobinHoodNYC's Chief Program Officer, Michael Weinstein at #DoGoodData2015...

Google Code is Shutting Down

If you haven’t already moved your projects to GitHub, now might be the time to start the migration. Launched in 2006, Google Code has been operating in the shadow of GitHub for years and today the search giant announced that new project creation has been disabled. In August of this year, the site will become read-only. So you’ll no longer be able to update projects, but you will be able to read and view source code, issues and wikis. Finally, on January 25, 2016 the service will be shut down. Nonprofit Tech sur Twitter : "When did this happen— a new view tweet activity view? Was it there yesterday? I'm uncertain. Slack, the Office Messaging App That May Finally Sink Email

Google and Microsoft, as well as upstarts like the cloud storage provider Box, the productivity software company Quip and the project-management system Asana, are trying to do something similar. There are also several direct competitors to Slack, including HipChat. Behind Slack’s rise is Mr. Butterfield’s grand vision for the future of the office. He is betting that solo work is on the wane and that as all of our jobs become more complex, more and more creative and technical feats will be accomplished by teams rather than lone practitioners.

To be effective in such an environment, workers will have to become adept at navigating complex team dynamics, and doing so will depend on the sort of nuanced, intimate communication that you can’t get from email. “That can be a loaded political term, but we just mean being able to see into different parts of the organization, which turns out to be important,” Mr. Nonprofit Tech sur Twitter : "Getting Started with #GivingTuesday.
