Taking Sides: Wedding Style with East Side Bride

Guys, gals: you’ve got a party to plan. A big one—if not in size, in significance. But the details of it all can get you down, so where to turn for some fresh perspective? East Side Bride, of course. A Dear Abby to cloudy-headed and style-stumped brides, she’s there to advise on the best course of action when the M.O.T.B. serves up some “crazysauce” as well as help find the perfect dress.

Without further ado, East Side Bride… Let’s get one little piece of business out of the way first. Barneys is not the place to shop if you’re a super traditional bride looking for a strapless, fluffy white dress. Here are a few of my picks for wedding dresses (and non-dresses) to help you stand out from the fluffy white crowd.

Sophisticated black and khaki monogrammed invitations set the tone for a formal but fun day, with bridesmaids carrying deep rose bouquets that complemented shoes of the same color against sleek taupe dresses. Catherine carried an unexpected and pretty bouquet of blue hydrangeas as she floated down the aisle in a strapless gown that starts simply at the top before giving way to a full ruffled skirt. For the reception, a stone patio covered in strung lights is a romantic spot for dinner and dancing. More hydrangeas and roses mix for bold centerpieces on the tables. With this in mind, the amazing designers at Nashville’s Cedarwood and photographer Krystal Mann created an inspirational wedding scene that combines luxurious, vintage elements with today’s modern woodland style. The Baroque inspired shoot features vintage china and gilded mirrors, and eclectic objects d’art collected from family heirlooms and flea markets. Altered art favors, a mirror guest book, and an opulent gilded cake are a stunning contrast to the rustic, wintry landscape. And the flowers – oh the flowers! They are positively gorgeous, combining grapes, kiwi and papaya with assorted blooms in rich purple and green tones. Fall Wedding Ideas from Sara Gray Photography. Burlap and Crystal Wedding Inspiration

The Nashville team of Cedarwood Weddings and Kristyn Hogan created a warm, cozy atmosphere with a glamorous side using a whitewashed color palette and burlap accents. All of the vintage mismatched candlesticks were thrifted and painted in an antique white to create a sea of white candlelight for the romantic centerpiece and mantel. The floral was kept simple (and budget-friendly!) With a unique baby’s breath arrangement, and the mirrors on the walls accentuate the shimmer and sparkle of the candles and add a pretty, antique feel to the setting. It's easy to feel trapped in a certain kind of wedding style when you're planning a fall wedding -- you might feel bound to a wedding color palette of brick to russet to terra cotta, and that autumn leaves are a decor necessity. But it's not so -- we've busted the top fall wedding myths so your style possibilities will be as excellent as the weather forecast.
