Cupcake Bakeshop by Chockylit » Yuzu White Chocolate Cupcake

http://cupcakeblog.com/index.php/?p=358 Two sources of previous inspiration collided recently. A lunch at Ozumu introduced me to yuzu and then a couple of weeks later a pass through the Village Market in the Ferry Building turned up a jar of yuzu marmalade. I took it as a sign that a yuzu cupcake was in order. Yuzu is making its rounds on dessert menus these days often paired with white chocolate. I decided to go the same route.
There's something about turtles that I find so endearing. I don't know if it's their slow but determined way of getting about, or how they can disappear into the 'homes' they carry on their backs. Either way, they're a fascinating creature, and as part of our Earth Week celebration at school this week and World Turtle Day on May 23rd, my classes are making Turtle Cupcakes to raise money for American Tortoise Rescue. http://sweetopia.net/2011/05/turtle-cupcakes/

I couldn't believe my eyes this week when I saw the ad for Pumpkin Spice Lattes in my local Starbucks. Pumpkin Spice already? But there's still a little more summer to be had, isn't there? Of course, it was impossible to stay upset for too long; after all, this is lovely pumpkin -- one of my favorite flavors of all time -- that we're talking about! http://thestir.cafemom.com/food_party/125724/pumpkin_cupcakes_with_cinnamon_cream

Pumpkin Cupcakes With Cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting

It seems like once the weather cools down everyone wants to jump right into pumpkin season. Don’t get me wrong, I love pumpkin as much as anyone else, but to me September is apple season. I was thinking about how often apples get overshadowed by pumpkin a few weeks ago when my husband asked me if I wanted to attend a dinner party with some of his coworkers. “Hrmmm. Maybe…”, I said. “They asked us to bring some kind of food to share”, he said. http://cravingchronicles.com/2011/09/22/caramel-apple-pie-cupcakes/

Last month we had a big party to celebrate the launch of Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day and my husband Graham’s birthday. I served our favorite Devil’s Food cupcakes with a sweet cream cheese icing. Of course the bread was the star of the night, but these cupcakes got rave reviews and several people asked for the recipe. The dark chocolate cake has a texture that is smooth and rich. Its flavor is not overly sweet, because of the intensity of the coffee and rum (the Devil in “Devil’s Food” perhaps?), which make it a great match for cream cheese frosting sweetened with Lyle’s Golden Syrup http://zoebakes.com/2008/01/06/not-your-average-devils-food-cupcakes/

I really need to preface this tutorial with... I am sorry. I am SURE there are easier ways to do a Vertical Layer Cake . But I was being a brat for my birthday . I wanted real cake, and not sponge cake. I wanted two different flavors. http://iammommy.typepad.com/i_am_baker/2011/02/vertical-layer-cake-tutororial.html
