Osho Speaks on Bhuribai

I have come to know thousands of men, thousands of women, but Bhuribai was unique among them. Bhuribai’s mahaparinirvana – her death attaining the highest liberation – happened just recently. Count her with Meera, Rabiya, Sahajo, Daya – she is qualified to be among these few selected women. But as she was illiterate, perhaps her name won’t ever become known. You ask me: I was one of those who was taken for a ride when the list of enlightened people was announced, because I thought, "If Osho says I'm enlightened, why not try it out? " You say: one would think that in all that time that perhaps at least one or two sannyasins might have achieved enlightenment? Osho. " Acharya Rajneesh 1971 Acharya Rajneesh was only 39 years old when I first met him at his Bombay apartment in December of 1970. With long beard and large dark eyes, he looked like a painting of Lao-Tse come to life (see picture of Rajneesh at his best). Before meeting Rajneesh I had spent time with a number of Eastern gurus without being satisfied with the quality of their teachings. Rajneesh spoke on a high level of intelligence and his powerful presence emanated from his body like a soft light that healed all wounds. Rajneesh possessed the astounding power of telepathy and direct energy transmission, which he used nobly to bring comfort and inspiration to his disciples.

Rajneesh (Osho, Bhagwan)

He was probably the most infamous "guru" of the modern age because of his controversial teachings and shrewd use of the media. As his story is so well known I will only briefly mention its highlights. His early life is now shrouded in myth but it seems he was a clever, rebellious boy who graduated from college in 1955 and took an MA in philosophy. He became a teacher and assistant professor in philosophy at Jabalpur Universtiy. In 1960 he began publicly lecturing on controversial issues attacking various sacred cows of Indian society. Over the next decade he attracted more Western followers and lost most of his Indian followers. Bibliography: Back to Gurus Page. See Site Policy for statement regarding copyright. While we are at it, we may as well consider the case of Rajneesh: an interesting take by an ex-disciple. Such figures are doubly tricky because we can’t say they weren’t enlightened, what then of their deviant behavior. This issue is often lost on conventional ‘deprogrammer’ commentary.
