Most recently, in 2010, the Extreme Cellists successfully undertook the English Coast-to-Coast walk (as made famous by Alfred Wainwright), carrying and playing their cellos as they went; this raised over £6,000 for two charities, Aspire and PACT. In previous years the Extreme Cellists have successfully negotiated a number of other challenges, including the Four Peaks Challenge (climbing the tallest mountains in Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland with cellos, and giving a performance at the top of each), running the Sheffield Half Marathon (carrying cellos and stopping to play twice along the way), the Cathedral Roof Tour (playing on the roofs of all 42 Anglican Cathedrals in England in just 12 days), walking from 45-mile route from Manchester to Sheffield in a single day, and

Banjo pioneer Earl Scruggs died this week. He took the instrument to dizzying technical heights for the bluegrass genre. And he influenced a new generation of banjo players [...] This week a government minister in Indonesia by calling for miniskirts to be outlawed. Indonesia has recently introduced tough new anti-pornography laws and the minister argued that miniskirts were, well, pornographic. It’s another example of a time-honored practice: legislators regulating clothing.
