Working with the idea of “creating a society that is based on quality not quantity, on cooperation and not competition,” CTRLZ architectures have rethought a new model for, not just a building, but rather for society.

Due to the on-going “cultural revolution” we are experiencing, the way we approach solving the problems of the world have changed, and architecture along with it. Now, the architect must not merely respond to designing spaces, but to other factors, such as society, energy, the internet, and politics, as well. “We believe that architecture is not anymore about form and/or/…function, but that it is about relations. The development of network systems shows us that the power resides in links and connections.” More about the model and more images after the break. Their new decentralized mode of living emphasizes the interconnectivity of social spaces and a transparent model of energy and production to create a collaborative base. This is Black Rock City. Farmland World

One of the runners-up for the recent Animal Architecture Awards is also one of my favorites from the competition: "Farmland World" by Allison Newmeyer and Stewart Hicks of the Chicago-based Design With Company. The project is an ironic investigation of how humans relate to farm animals—more specifically, how the ongoing spatial separation between humans and the animals they rely on for food and other forms of agricultural work can make animals seem to be nothing more than utilitarian machines. In the architects' words: The everyday life of the average American is almost completely disconnected from the land and animals that support them. Design With Co. Fun Palace, un proyecto no realizado

URBAN PROTOTYPE PLAZA ECOPOLIS to Compete for the 2011 Buckminster Fuller Challenge

Named “Socially-Responsible Design’s Highest Award” by Metropolis Magazine, the Challenge is an annual international prize program that awards $100,000 to support the development and implementation of a solution that has significant potential to solve humanity’s most pressing problems. We are thrilled to be a part of the Buckminster Fuller Challenge review process, which brings together influential design science leaders such as Josè Zaglul, Vandana Shiva, Danny Hillis, William McDonough, John Thackara and Hunter Lovins.

We entered this competition because of its reputation as the most prestigious Prize concerning social issues. We know 40% of the water consumed in the world is used in building facilities. 7 Brilliant Building Conversion Projects: Superb Examples of Architectural Adaptive Reuse

7 (More) Amazing Adaptive Reuse Architecture Projects: From Ship Houses to Chapel Bookstores. Who would have thought you could make so much with simple structures from trailer parks? And that’s just the beginning. For ecological reasons, for eccentric clients and simply for fun, more and more architects and designers are figuring out clever approaches to adaptively reuse old structures in novel ways. From pigsty and water tower houses to a beautiful chapel bookstore and a gigantic shipping container museum, here are seven more ingenious reuses of otherwise wasted architecture into amazing recycled designs . A pigsty is probably the last place anyone would want to live , right? Well, this 230 year old building inspired FNP Architekten in Germany to create a unique blend of modern and aged architecture.

If ever there was a weird building with an incredibly bizarre history this is it. Currently under construction, the new High Line elevated park in New York City takes advantage of an urban relic that has sat with potential but no plans for a very long time.
