New Thai PM uses holy water, feng shui to ward off occult

Prayuth, 60, has left nothing to chance since leading a military coup to topple a democratically elected government on May 22. After a meticulously planned power grab, he has systematically snuffed out dissent. That meticulousness is being carried through to his government. Like many politicians and generals before him, Prayuth believes in spiritualism and divination and on Monday members of his entourage were seen carrying Buddha statues and religious idols thought to bring luck in to Government House. But his beliefs go beyond conventional religion, and last week, Prayuth told an audience of dousing himself from head to toe in holy water as his enemies had tried to curse him.

Army officials say his views on the spirit world and rituals to ward off evil are unlikely to influence government policy, however. Thailand to Recognize ‘Third Gender’ in New Constitution: Panel. Thailand to Recognize ‘Third Gender’ in New Constitution: Panel

(Photo: Reuters) BANGKOK— Thailand’s constitution will include the term “third gender” for the first time, a member of a panel drafting a new charter said on Thursday, in a move to empower transgender and gay communities and ensure them fairer legal treatment. Thailand has a large gay community, but remains largely conservative, although homosexual, transgender and transsexual people play key roles in its entertainment industry. Thai law does not recognize same-sex unions, which keeps gay couples from taking joint bank loans and medical insurance, besides barring changes to gender categories on national identity papers. Mr Chai Rachawat, a cartoonist for a prominent daily newspaper, posted pictures of Ms Yingluck on Tuesday accompanied by the words "...a prostitute is not an evil person; the hooker only sells body, but an evil woman sells the nation". His post apparently took aim at the Premier's appearance at a democracy forum a day earlier in Mongolia where she gave an unusually fiery speech condemning the 2006 overthrow of her brother Thaksin in an army coup. "A lawyer authorised by the Prime Minister filed lawsuits against him for defamation," Police Colonel Pattarapol Sanitwong Na Ayudhya of Bangkok police told AFP. The lawyer also filed two further claims - one for libel and one under the contentious computer crime act, he added. Bangkok Pundit by Bangkok Pundit. The Bangkok Post: The caretaker government is using the Council of State, its legal arm, to delay the next meeting of the Senate.

Bangkok Pundit by Bangkok Pundit

Apparently, the delay is a bid to block the removal of Nikhom Wairatpanich as Senate Speaker, and Somsak Kiatsuranon retroactively as parliament president, by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC)...The allegation arose after the Council of State wrote to the cabinet secretariat last Friday and asked the latter to inform the Senate secretariat that the Senate cannot convene a meeting on April 18. The Nation: Without the House of Representatives, some legal experts believe Surachai, who has close ties with the anti-government Group of 40 Senators, should nominate the PM. PC Air, a newly formed Thai airline, is recruiting trangendered flight attendants, and over 100 members of the “third-sex” applied for jobs this week, reports the Telegraph. Thailand is one of the biggest transgendered hot-spots in the world, so the number of people who applied for the position wasn’t surprising to the airline officials. The owner of the airline looks at this as his opportunity to give the “third-sex” a new career choice. And he hopes that other airlines will follow his lead: “I think these people can have many careers,” he said to the Telegraph, “not just in the entertainment business – and many of them have a dream to be an air hostess. I just made their dream come true. Out of the 100 applicants, three were chosen for positions, while 17 men and 10 women were hired as well.

‘Our initial quota was set at three transsexuals, but we will consider taking more in the future depending on their qualifications,’ a PC Air spokeswoman said to Thailandnews.net. Thai airline recruits ladyboy flight attendants.
