The University of Notre Dame's Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Program, which celebrated 25 years in 2011, provides opportunities for undergraduate students to experience hands-on participation in research in many areas of physics. Students are granted stipends, university housing, and assistance with travel and food expenses. Basically, this means that if you are a rising junior or senior, you can come to Notre Dame and work with a professor for ten weeks.
Welcome to the Georgetown REU Site in Materials Physics! Undergraduate students are invited to apply for a 10-week summer research program to engage in a focused research project in materials physics, working closely with a faculty mentor and other researchers. Taking advantage of Georgetown's location in the nation's capital, this REU program will also feature a science-and-society component to encourage students to explore the connection between scientific research and the world outside the laboratory. In addition, REU participants will join other physics and chemistry undergraduates in a variety of professional development workshops and social and networking activities. This program is funded by the National Science Foundation and Georgetown University. Research Projects in Materials Physics Projects include experimental, computational, and theoretical work in nanoscale physics, soft matter, device physics, biophysics, and cold-atom systems.

Each summer the Department of Physics at Purdue runs a National Science Foundation funded Research Experience for Undergraduates program. This year's 10 week program runs from May 28, 2013 until August 2, 2013. Applications will be accepted until all position are filled. However, since we begin reviewing applications in early February, please apply before February 10 for full consideration. Allowances may be made for students whose Summer Break begins after this start date. The main goal of the program is to give undergraduates an opportunity to participate in a forefront research project.
Application Period The application process for the APS Minority Scholarship opens every fall on November 1. The application deadline is the first Friday the following February.
Sponsored by APS Student Honors Scholarship for Minority Undergraduate Physics Majors Any African-American, Hispanic American, or Native American U.S. citizens or permanent residents who is majoring or planning to major in physics, and who is a high school senior, college freshman, or sophomore is eligible to apply to be an APS Minority Scholar. LeRoy Apker Undergraduate Physics Achievement Award To recognize outstanding achievements in physics by undergraduate students, and thereby provide encouragement to young physicists who have demonstrated great potential for future scientific accomplishment. Career Minority Physicists Edward A. Bouchet Award The award promotes the participation of under-represented minorities in physics by identifying and recognizing a distinguished minority physicist who has made significant contributions to physics research. Research Experience for Undergraduates Program UC Davis Physics Department June 16 to August 23, 2013 Introduction The Department of Physics has hosted an NSF-funded Research Experiences for Undergraduates site since 2004. During the 10-week program students live on campus while working alongside our faculty and graduate students on ongoing research projects. Students get a view of physics very different from typical coursework. Program Summary
Summer 2012 Program The Texas A&M Cyclotron Institute , in conjunction with the National Science Foundation , is serving as a Research Experiences for Undergraduates site during the summer of 2012. This REU site focuses on research in nuclear physics and nuclear chemistry. Students will have the opportunity to work closely with internationally renowned scientists at a major university-based nuclear facility. Undergraduates will gain research experience by carrying out specific projects under the direct supervision of Physics/Chmistry faculty at the Cyclotron Institute.
The new calendar year started well and all our courses are well under way. On February 1st, we had the great pleasure to welcome our newest faculty member, Joshua Pepper, to the department. He joins us from Vanderbilt University. He will strengthen our Astrophysics program with his research on extrasolar planets; planets that orbit stars other than our sun. The main focus of his research is the KELT project - a pair of small, wide-field telescopes that we are using to search for transiting planets around bright stars. He is offering a course on Astrobiology this semester.
