Sidekicks Mentoring matches community volunteers to school-aged children between the ages of 6 to 16 with the goal of providing these children with positive mentors and role models to be their friends. The Sidekicks program was originally run by a group of volunteers that began the program with the goal of putting more priority on local, St. Albert children. The Central and Northern Network for Child Health is dedicated to working together for a healthier, brighter future for children in central and northern Alberta – spanning from High Level to Red Deer. Established two years ago, the Central and Northern Network for Children provides a forum to improve the communication and collaboration on child health services provided by regional health authorities (Capital Health, David Thompson , Northern Lights, Aspen, Peace Country and East Central) and agencies in central and northern Alberta. The Network members also include the Alberta Cancer Board; Treaty 6 – Yellowhead Tribal Council, and Treaty 8 – First Nations of Alberta; and the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch (Health Canada). Numerous outreach clinics provide a variety of specialized services in many of the communities outside of the Capital Health region.
