http://thatssomichelle.blogspot.com/2011/06/watermelon-granita.html I don't know why but I've always been intimidated by the term "granita" and thought it was too fancy for me to try on my own. Well, it is fancy! But guess what, it's also super easy , and really fresh and light. A perfect summer dessert. The flavor is so obviously watermelon without being cloyingly sweet. It's just right.

DIY Idea, Braided Headband

http://myevaforeva.blogspot.com/2010/01/diy-idea-braided-headband.html You don't need to know how to knit to make this Timoshenko inspired head braid. All you need is some bulky yarn. Really! If you'd like to have a double braid you will need pieces that are about 60" to 63" long. I used 6 pieces in each portion so total 18 pieces in one braid. Tie them up with a hairband, divide in three equal pieces and start braiding.
Oh hey! Happy Friday! I hope you all have a fabulous long weekend! TCB will be off on Monday, but fear not, I'll be back on Tuesday!

Friday Foodday

http://www.mybakingaddiction.com/cookie-dough-cheesecake-bars-recipe/ Sometimes I sit and ponder delicious baked goods to make for the blog and jot them into my iPhone notepad. And sometimes I think my ideas are utterly genius – well, momentarily genius that is. As soon as I type my brilliant idea into Google, it typically reveals that someone else had the same amazing idea long before I did. That was the exact scenario with these Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cheesecake Bars. It’s no wonder someone came up this deliciousness before me… I mean, can you think of a more amazing combination than the love child of a cheesecake and chocolate chip cookies ?

http://www.stripesandsequins.com/2011/05/diy-love.html My (amazingly talented) friend Jenni has a section on her blog where she highlights the DIY projects that she’s found to be fabulous. Since I’ve been a little bit busy, I thought I’d steal a page out of her book. These are two projects that I’m dying to try myself. First there is StyleCaster’s “ Hardcore DIY. “ This necklace is just out of this world. Buying safety pins and seed beads immediately to recreate on my own. And then there is Dismount Creative’s sparkly wrapped bracelets .

Cupcakes are still quite the trend, aren't they? Well, I don't think this trend is ending anytime soon... especially when the sky's the limit for cupcake flavors! Take for instance Boston Cream Pie. It's not exactly a pie but rather a cake. When it comes to cupcakes, pretty much any cake can be adapted in cupcake form.

I love tie dye projects. I think the first time I ever tie dyed anything was at a middle school girls sleep over party-and it was so fun! Today Katie has made us a sweet summer tie dye DIY. http://abeautifulmess.typepad.com/my_weblog/2011/05/diy-chic-summer-tie-dye-from-katie.html

Journal - A PIECE of TOAST - Crafty Rope Bracelets

Thursday, May 5, 2011 MBM Sister Sally and I have been feeling pretty crafty lately – a total throw back to our adolescent/teenage years when we were craft fanatics . We made some stellar necklaces with our mama when she was here over Easter weekend and I think these DIY rope bracelets from Honestly…WTF would be another fun project. Because I don’t know about you all, but DIY jewelry always seems much less daunting than DIY furniture, home décor, and clothing projects. So these rope bracelets – aren’t they cool?!
Toasted Chickpea Snacks I like to snack on crunchy stuff. Nuts and pretzels…stuff like that. Surely I’m not the only one who gets such great satisfaction out of crunching? Lately I’ve gotten into those dried/roasted soy nuts or edamame. The toasted chickpeas I made today kind of remind me of those.

Honeyed Pears in Puff Pastry

Poaching fruit is one of my favorite things to do when cold weather arrives. It's so warming to stand over a boiling pot of fragrant spices and lose yourself in thought. When I made these, I couldn't help but daydream as I stirred; if I were a pear...

New York-Style Crumb Cake

I am always on the hunt for a great crumb cake recipe and since crumb cake is a pretty big thing to this [former] New York girl, finding just the right recipe is really important to me. See, I watched many a crumb cake pass through the hands of family and friends while I grew up. It was the dessert of choice to bring to someone’s house when you were going for coffee and usually it was an Entemann’s cake.
