Watermelon Granita. I don't know why but I've always been intimidated by the term "granita" and thought it was too fancy for me to try on my own. Well, it is fancy! But guess what, it's also super easy, and really fresh and light. A perfect summer dessert. The flavor is so obviously watermelon without being cloyingly sweet. It's just right. You have to try it. I followed the recipe from my latest Bon Appetit Magazine . Watermelon Granita: 4 cups (1 3/4 pounds) cubed seedless watermelon (from a 4-lb. melon) 1/2 cup sugar 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice Directions: Purée all ingredients in a blender (I used a food processor) until smooth. Using a fork, scrape granita vigorously to form icy flakes. This weekend we went to a gorgeous engagement party at a lake house in Virginia. The views of the dock at sunset were spectacular. I ate too much ceviche, drank too much cherimoya punch and ate way too many gummy bears on our hour long drive home. I spent the next morning miserable on the couch with a cold washcloth on my forehead unable to do much but watch re-runs of Chopped on our DVR. Good thing Nick was there to take care of me. He made me pancakes! When I felt better -- after I missed an entire beautiful Sunday -- I made him this Cherry Apple Sugar Cone Crumble.

. *1 can cherry pie filling *2 Fuji apples *4 sugar cones (crushed) *1 teaspoon salt *1/2 cup brown sugar *1/3 cup sliced almonds *1 teaspoon cinnamon *1/2 teaspoon nutmeg *1 stick melted butter The best part of this dessert was the hint of salt that came out with the brown sugar and crushed sugar cones. 1. 2. 3. 4. 6. Stripes and sequins: DIY Love... My (amazingly talented) friend Jenni has a section on her blog where she highlights the DIY projects that she’s found to be fabulous. Since I’ve been a little bit busy, I thought I’d steal a page out of her book. These are two projects that I’m dying to try myself. First there is StyleCaster’s “Hardcore DIY.“ This necklace is just out of this world. Buying safety pins and seed beads immediately to recreate on my own. And then there is Dismount Creative’s sparkly wrapped bracelets.

I hope you've enjoyed my fun & easy DIY! Toasted Chickpea Snacks. Toasted Chickpea Snacks I like to snack on crunchy stuff. Nuts and pretzels…stuff like that. Surely I’m not the only one who gets such great satisfaction out of crunching? Lately I’ve gotten into those dried/roasted soy nuts or edamame. The toasted chickpeas I made today kind of remind me of those. But they’re crunchier, therefore more addictive…I might have to start keeping these in my pocket. These are super easy to make. Anyway you just toss it together with a tablespoon of olive oil and then spread them on a baking sheet. Also: * These are good with curry powder too (instead of chili powder) but I wansn’t in the mood to deal with that smell in the house for the next 3 days. * The longer you bake them the crunchier they get. * Oh yeah, I used canned chickpeas. * Oh yeah, great beer food.

Recipe You need: 1 can chickpeas1/2 teaspoon paprika 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper1/2 teaspoon red chili powder1/4 teaspoon salt1 tablespoon olive oil1 teaspoon sugar Directions. Honeyed Pears in Puff Pastry. Poaching fruit is one of my favorite things to do when cold weather arrives. It's so warming to stand over a boiling pot of fragrant spices and lose yourself in thought. When I made these, I couldn't help but daydream as I stirred; if I were a pear... I wouldn't want to spend my days on the shelf of a cold produce department. I'd want to be taken to a warm home and placed in a jacuzzi of honey and spices. That sounds a little silly, but that's what I'd want... if I were a pear.

The idea for these came from the Pepperidge Farm website. On a personal note, our Christmas tree is already up courtesy of Mr. Since poaching is a relatively easy task, I'll skip to some helpful tips for wrapping the pears in puff pastry. The poaching liquid has a high concentration of sugar, so your pears will be sticky. When you reach the top, tuck in the end piece of pastry behind the last spiral. 4 small pears 1 sheet of ready made puff pastry dough, thawed 4 cups water 2 cups sugar 1 cup honey 1/2 lemon. Edible Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough – Tasty Kitchen. New York-Style Crumb Cake. I am always on the hunt for a great crumb cake recipe and since crumb cake is a pretty big thing to this [former] New York girl, finding just the right recipe is really important to me.

See, I watched many a crumb cake pass through the hands of family and friends while I grew up. It was the dessert of choice to bring to someone’s house when you were going for coffee and usually it was an Entemann’s cake. When Entemann’s came out with their “Ultimate Crumb Cake” years ago, it was the best thing since sliced bread - loads of big crumbs with a fresh and soft yellow cake underneath is what has driven people crazy for years and I’m thrilled to say that I’ve found a recipe that meets my high expectations. Cook’s Illustrated has pulled together a super easy and fantastic recipe for this beloved cake and I’m so excited to share it with you today! New York-Style Crumb Cake Make sure you use cake flour for this recipe - all-purpose flour will yield a dry and tough cake.

Ingredients For the cake: Carrot Cake Oatmeal with Cream Cheese Frosting | Live Well 360. Email Ingredients 1/4 cup carrot, grated 1/2 cup (40g) rolled oats 1/2 cup skim milk (or your favorite milk substitute) 1/2 cup water pinch of salt 1/2 medium banana, sliced into thin pieces 1 + 1/8 tsp vanilla extract 1 + 1/8 tsp stevia 1/4 tsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice 1 tbsp (6.5g) wheat germ 2 tbsp fat-free Greek yogurt 1 tbsp mascarpone or cream cheese* 0.2 oz walnut pieces, toasted * You could use low-fat cream cheese or you could also use cottage cheese as well, but if you do, I would recommend blending in the food processor to break up all of the cottage cheese curds, so it’s nice and airy and whipped! Directions In a medium size pan, heat the grated carrot, oats, milk, water, and salt over medium heat.

Once the mixture begins to simmer, approximately 5-6 minutes, stir in the sliced banana. Continue to stir, almost whipping, until the banana breaks down and the mixture thickens and becomes creamy, about another 5-6 minutes. This recipe was very very carrot cake like.
