It took me a while to come around to the idea of making my own laundry soap. I tend to be very particular about my laundry detergent. I need it to not fade my colors, smell good, and most importantly clean well. I do not have children at home who like to get their clothes extremely dirty but I do have a husband who insist on coming home from softball games each week looking like the Dirt Monster (he enjoys sliding…and is usually always safe). It's smooth and not grainy. If you happen to have a bar that has been sitting on the shelf for awhile, when you cut it you will notice that it fractures easily, breaks apart with minimal effort and is not "smooth" when it's cut, but jagged. Older bars are GREAT for this recipe because it requires very little effort to powder them. Leave them overnight to dry completely.

It actually was embarrassingly easy, but I’m going to post about it anyway. :-) To make a CONCENTRATED batch of No-Grate Liquid Laundry Detergent I started with a smaller container.

I used an 89 ounce juice container, which is roughly 30% smaller than the gallon size. Then I added: 1/2 cup of Borax 1/2 cup of Washing Soda 1/2 cup of Dawn Dishwashing Liquid (I have used both the Original and the Ultra and haven’t noticed any difference between the two) Add to that: 4 cups HOT water to dissolve the ingredients, then fill the container the rest of the way with cold water.
