Magnum Photos Photographer Portfolio. Quand Stanley Kubrick était photographe. A la fin des années 40, bien avant de se lancer dans le cinéma et de nous offrir des chefs d’oeuvres qui ont marqué l’histoire du cinéma, Stanley Kubrick était un photographe de presse.
Il se passionne pour la photographie à 13 ans lorsque son père lui offre un appareil photo et devient fan de Weegee. Sa vocation se précise quand, à 16 ans en 1945, il prend sur le chemin du lycée une photo d’un vendeur de journaux en larmes après la mort de Roosevelt et la vend au magazine Look qui finit par l’embaucher. Kubrick y travaillera comme photojournaliste indépendant pendant quatre ans, jusqu’en 1949, en photographiant le quotidien de la ville de Chicago.

What's the difference between a bird's-eye view of a remote vegetable crop and a microscopic swath from a pineapple leaf? How distinct is a pile of table salt from miles and miles of icebergs? I've made a living over the last decade capturing mostly recognizable images of food. Now I want to show what is there, but what we never actually see: landscapes, patterns and textures that ignite a completely different response from the viewer. Photographs taken with electron microscopes have seized my interest because of their mystery and simultaneous familiarity.
