Bolin’s Amazing Camouflages. Liu Bolin’s art has been featured in hundreds of blogs and magazines (including Illusion), his work has been displayed in galleries in New York, France and beyond; and he was a guest speaker at TED. This Chinese artist already has a heavy schedule for the fall, as he’ll be showcasing his pictures at Artinternational, Paris Photo, Art Tapei, Art14 London and Art Stage Singapore.

“The Invisible Man” (as Bolin is often named) paints his body to create the illusion he is part of the environment. His visuals address important sociopolitical issues; for example, he began the series “Hiding in the City” (in 2005) “after the Chinese police destroyed Suo Jia Cun, the Beijing artists’ village in which he’d been working, because the government did not want artists working and living together. With the help of assistants, he painstakingly painted his clothes, face, and hair to blend into the background of a demolished studio.” [1]

刘勃麟个人网站. JR and Liu Bolin Collaborative Artwork in New York City. In a pretty interesting get together, French artist JR has teamed up with Chinese artist Liu Bolin on a collaborative artwork in New York City. JR is known for his beautiful large scale works around the globe, while Liu Bolin is known for making himself disappear or make invisible on interesting backgrounds. Not long ago, we reported about Liu Bolin working with fashion designers Gaultier, Elbaz and others. First the French artist wheat-pasted up a photo mural of Liu and now, we get to see the Chinese artist return the favor and camouflage JR into his own art with his signature touch. Bolin had to paint JR’s entire body, including the face to make it work. The outcome is beautiful and the team-up is a match made in heaven. Take a detailed look at the final work and the process after the jump.

(Via ArrestedMotion) Liu Bolin and JR's Camouflaging Collaboration. Did you catch the man concealed in that giant street mural? French street artist JR and expert camouflage artist Liu Bolin have recently joined forces in New York City to produce this massive multilayered art project. The three-step undertaking began with the construction and assembly of JR's large-scale mural of Bolin. The street artist wheatpasted the image to the wall in the Nolita neighborhood of Manhattan. Once the adhesive was applied and the mural was completely installed, it was Bolin's turn to work his camouflage magic. Bolin, who is no stranger to hiding into his surroundings, follows up the collaborative project by, once again, blending his subject into the wall's newly added visual.

1973 - Naissance à Shandong 1995 - Licence d'Art - Shandong Arts Institute 2001 - Master - Sculpture - Central Academy of Fine Arts Expositions Individuelles : Expositions Collectives 1999 - Seconde exposition d'oeuvres en métal - Central Academy of Fine Arts.

Liu Bolin - Invisible Man. My Design Stories More work from Liu Bolin. Liu Bolin has been featured again and again on Design Stories. It’s interesting to note that Bolin started painting himself after he lost everything. When the Chinese government shut down his place of employment, the Suojia Village Art Campus, it was at that moment that he decided to head down his own path. “My resistance to the force of governments made me experience the life of people with no social status, no job, no family, no income and this was the emotional reason I began my series of works,” he says.

“In my work, the artist is hiding to restore his strength and to protect himself. I want my viewers to experience China as I know it, where the concept of artists as human beings was once neglected.” Have you enjoyed this post? Invisible Artist The Liu Bolin.
