How To Transfer Prints To Wood: An Awesome Photography DIY Project. How to shoot lightning strikes. Here is a quick post of some lightning shots I took tonight during our seasonal monsoon storms in Arizona. While Sierra Vista lacks the bigger cityscape’s such as Tucson or Phoenix that frames lighting shots nicely for dramatic vies, we do have mountains near by that offer a decent scene. Our monsoon season has officially been underway for a couple weeks now, I waited patiently for an active light show and tonight didn’t disappoint. To capture lightning is not that much different than what you would do with fireworks, you’ll need a camera with a “bulb” setting that allows you to hold your shutter open for long periods, you need a sturdy tripod and a remote shutter release cable. You should bring something to protect your camera from getting wet and if you have sand bags or something to weight your tripod down bring it just in case.

Flash photography can be a great tool in the absence of insufficient natural light. Then again, there are situations like live concerts, theatrical performances or even film shoots where you are required to capture everything without using a flash. Flashes might light up your subject, but it can also flatten the image and make it appear one-dimensional. This makes your image look lifeless, with no depth or play of light and shadow (except for the harsh shadow behind the subject). This is particularly true of pop-up flashes that come with your camera. Without a diffuser that normally accompanies external flashes, these built-in flashes lead to over-exposed images and cast a bright spot on the subject, marring the beauty of your image irreparably. Here is where the following tips to beat low light situations might come in handy.
Observation Become an observer. Shoot RAW Now, there are different formats in photography: jpeg, tiff and raw. ~Zahid Javali. The Sunny 16 Rule by Digital Photo Secrets. Have you ever heard of the sunny 16 rule? It seems to have all but disappeared in most modern discussions of photography. As a matter of fact, it’s one of many rules that photographers seem to have forgotten. That’s a shame because the sunny 16 rule serves as a nice way to check your current exposure settings.
Let’s have a look at how it works. Long before the time of digital cameras, photographers invented rules to help them navigate their camera’s manual settings. Photographers had to carry light meters with them everywhere they went, and they were virtually lost without them. And it’s still pretty handy to know what manual mode settings to use with your camera. How does the sunny 16 rule work? The sunny 16 rule works like this: On a clear and sunny day, at an aperture of F/16, you will get a correct exposure if you use a shutter speed that’s the inverse of the ISO speed you’re using. The second part is probably the one that’s confusing you (if any of it is).
Let’s use another example. How to Make Custom Photo Frames For Free. How to Make a Custom Wedding Photo Frame - Inkscape Tutorial. Inkscape Review - Review of Free Vector-Based Image Editor Inkscape. Inkscape is the open source community's alternative to Adobe Illustrator, the accepted industry standard tool for the production of vector-based graphics. It is a credible alternative for anyone whose budget can't stretch to Illustrator, with some caveats, including the fact that as powerful as Inkscape is, it doesn't match the full range of features of Illustrator. Despite that, it has developed into an application that perhaps should now be taken seriously as a professional tool, though its lack of PMS color support may still be a stumbling block for some users. The User Interface Pros Clearly presented tools and options Collapsible side palettes Cons Collapsing of side palettes a little buggy Floating Tools palette can't be reconfigured.
Inkscape has a fresh user interface that presents the various tools and features in a very accessible way. Above the working area, several toolbars can be shown or hidden. CLICK HERE FOR PART 1- Basics CLICK HERE FOR PART 2 – Manual Flash Ok, now that we’ve talked about getting your strobe off camera, and triggering it manually, lets talk about the other “main” option for firing it – wireless TTL In simplest terms it means that your camera and flash “talk” to each other to automatically determine the proper exposure. Just like the automatic metering modes for your camera (where it calculates the exposure based on reading the light of the scene) TTL flash does the same thing – lets your camera automatically calculate the amount of flash needed for a scene.
Generally the way this is done is that the camera fires a “pre flash”, a small burst from the flash to “test” the scene, which is read and exposure/amount of flash is calculated. Now bear in mind that although wireless TTL and manual flash both achieve the same end result (firing your flash off camera, they are very different beasts. <- TTL flash foot vs. manual flash foot. 1 – it is proprietary.

A Post By: Helen Bradley We’ve received quite a bit of feedback from Post production readers asking us to look at the issue of sharpening photos. Sharpening does as its name suggests and sharpens the image making it look crisper and making the edges in the image more distinct.
