Russell Means was a leader in the American Indian Movement (AIM) of the 1960s and 70s, and remains one of the most outspoken Native Americans in the U.S. I came across this essay while researching for my upcoming critique of Marxism, and was blown away by its clarity. This is Means’ most famous essay. It was published in Ward Churchill’s book “Marxism and Native Americans”, under the title “The Same Old Song”, and has appeared elsewhere under the names “Marxism is a European Tradition,” and “For America to Live, Europe Must Die.” Yet, it is actually not very available on the internet. “For America to Live, Europe Must Die” Russell Means Reproduced from Black Hawk Productions. “The only possible opening for a statement of this kind is that I detest writing. Examined Life by Astra Taylor. Astra Taylor on the Unschooled Life. Bring the Ruckus. By the Ruckus Collective, Phoenix, 2001 Over the last few years there has been a growing discussion among revolutionaries of the need for a national or continental anti-authoritarian revolutionary organization.

Bring the Ruckus

This discussion has emerged from several contexts, including the death of the Love and Rage Revolutionary Anarchist Federation, the anti-globalization protests that began in Seattle in 1999, and by criticisms of the whiteness of the American left made primarily by revolutionaries of color. World and national events also seem to justify such discussion: globalization, the persistence of the American racial order, and the bankruptcy of reformist movements from the left, right, and center. Yet if talk about the need for a new organization is abundant, steps toward building it have been awkward. Much talk is simply recycled debate over violence and organizational structure, while other debates, such as over strategy, have been largely overlooked.

Insurrectionary anarchy and revolutionary organization

In recent years there have been many debates within the anarchist movement about the insurrectionary method of organizing for revolution. But often these debates do not go into detail regarding the organizational proposals put forth by insurrectionary anarchists. This piece hopes to highlight these organizational methods and serve as an introduction to this project and tendency within revolutionary anarchist thought. Formal vs Informal Organization? The Rise of the Praetorian Class. Dear Reader, As I am just coming off a grueling stretch of almost non-stop writing – much of it related to this month’s edition of The Casey Report, published yesterday (get it while it’s hot) – I am approaching the matter of these musings this morning with a somewhat fuzzy mind and a throbbing right hand that may (but I hope doesn’t) signal the early onset of carpal tunnel syndrome.
