La Bahia market is home to hundreds of vendors stretching multiple city blocks and the ideal place if you re looking for anything, and I mean anything, here in Ecuador. From electronics to Cuban cigars can be found inside the winding “streets”of La Bahia and at prices that beat most other stores – and haggling over price is expected so be prepared to try and lower the asking price. Unfortunately, the market is also well known as one of the more “seedier” places in Guayaquil and is home to all kinds of characters trying to sell legal and illegally gained goods. Over the last few years the city, and the vendors themselves, have taken great steps to try and clear out the unwanted elements from what could be – and rightfully should be – one of the bigger tourism draws in the city.

I must admit that I seem to be taking on a bit more than I can chew lately and Ecuador Unplugged has been quietly awaiting my return while I have been busy playing around with setting up a couple other sites and trying to get a new business venture off the ground.

Regardless of my lack of overall motivation…maybe it is the weather….to blog I have plugged away on the design side and planning a new upcoming photos series, which has already started, called “Windows of the Soul – Ecuador”. This project will involve a compilation of up-close and personal shots of people I meet on the street , specifically their eyes (hence the windows of the soul reference). This is a bit of a departure for me from my run-of-the-mill street photography in that I am actually asking subjects if I can take a photo or two of specifically their eyes.
