The 401(k) account is the common name in the United States for the tax qualified defined contribution pension plan account and takes its name from subsection 401(k) of the Internal Revenue Code (Title 26 of the United States Code ). 401(k) are "defined contribution plans" with annual contributions limited, currently, to $17,500. [ 1 ] Contributions are "tax-deferred"—deducted from paychecks before taxes and then taxed when a withdrawal is made from the 401(k) account. Depending on the employer's program a portion of the employee's contribution may be matched by the employer. [ 2 ] They are not the exclusive type of employer provided defined contribution pension plans, rather they are the most talked about type because 403(b) and 401(a) defined contribution plans which have higher limits and are mandatory also exist.

Contract workers' pay likely to be future rub in labour relations

Parity between contract and regular workers, and having skilled floor managers to address labour troubles were the key lessons companies internalised during 2011 — moving away from a year that saw at least a dozen major strikes affecting work across sectors. Year 2011 saw the emergence of disproportionate pay to contract workers as a major reason for dissatisfaction among workers. Three strikes at Maruti Suzuki India Limited’s Manesar plant were emblematic of this rising trend. http://www.business-standard.com/india/news/contract-workers-pay-likely-to-be-future-rub-in-labour-relations/460947/
