Ladybug Valentine. Bella and I worked on her Valentines yesterday. She will be handing out these ladybug valentines. We used red and white card-stock along with brads(metal paper fasteners), 4 1/2 ” square of black tissue paper, Tootsie Pops and wiggly eyes. Yes, black brads would have been easier, but I couldn’t find them anywhere. So we colored ours with a sharpie marker and it worked perfect!

For our first craft all you need is an empty toilet paper roll, some paint, paper and a willing baby. I found the idea for Toilet Paper Roll Heart Stamps from Prudent Baby and it’s such an easy craft! All you have to do is bend the roll into a heart shape and tape it at the peaks of the heart so it will stay when your little Picasso starts stamping away. Pour some red (or pink, or whatever color you want) onto a plate and dip the heart shape into the paint for them.
Put some blank cards, paper or card stock in front of them so they can start stamping away. Once they’re dry, you can pop them in the mail and send them to grandparents, family or friends. We had another round of Valentine's Day themed activity trays this past week and I thought I would share them with you.
We worked on numbers, counting, name recognition, matching, and fine motor. First one up is this heart matching tray. I punched matching pairs of hearts out of 8 different pieces of scrapbook paper with a heart punch. I bought my heart punch at Michael's with a 40% off coupon. Then I punched 16 more hearts out of red cardstock paper and glued them to the back of all the hearts. I laid them all out on the tray in even rows and my daughter was ready to play a matching game. Second up is our counting tray. The purpose of the tray is to recognize or count the number on the the heart, and put that many pushpins in the square block. It turns out to be counting and fine motor practice. :) And my daughter LOVED getting to push all 55 pushpins into the blocks. My daughter suggested we make more but with a Valentine’s Day theme – “you know with hearts and we can hang it on our kitchen light.” My first thought – that’s brilliant. My second thought was how awesome it is to have a creative daughter. So, off I went to Michaels craft store to find Valentine’s Day themed paper. The materials I used to make these Valentine’s Day Paper Roll Owls are toilet paper rolls, Valentine’s Day themed scrapbook paper, red cardstock paper, orange cardstock paper, googly (wiggle) eyes, pencil, scissors, glue, paint brush, circle puncher, heart stickers and ribbon.
