The red kitchen: Jeans, Bucket Hat, and Skorts (with a baby cakes tutorial) The more we talk about and think through what we're going to cram into the car when we move, the more I'm realizing that we're going to be leaving 99% of our stuff behind.

And included in that 99% will be a lot of the clothes in my stash for making other stuff out of. I've gotten all this stuff for free, but I'd still like to use it if I can. So, in an effort to use up as much of it as possible and make some great summer clothes for Olivia, I've started cranking out some fun new things. Yesterday's projects: jeans, bucket hat, skorts. (Yes, spell check and Bryan, skorts is a real word.) These basic little jeans are made from a much bigger pair of jeans (that I picked up for free--woot woot!) And I added one of my little tags to the back. You can find my tutorial for how to make your own stamps and printed labels HERE.

Next up, this sweet and simple bucket hat. Despite all the impressive topstitching, this hat was super easy to make. One cute hat for the Bolivia? Baby. Blind Hem Stitch (with a sewing machine) First of all…….thank you, thank you for all of the help, advice, personal experiences, etc. with the PC vs.

MAC debate (here). We weighed the pros, the cons, thought about what we use our computer for, how soon we’ll have to get another computer anyway, etc. (And haha, it WAS like starting a discussion about politics or religion. There is a definite opinion on both sides……and I loved reading it all.) However, we finally decided. Do you sometimes wonder how those almost invisible hems are sewn into slacks? Bottoms of curtains? Occasional hems of high-quality dresses? Well, wonder no more. It really isn’t too hard to do. What?!! Good. Ready to learn how to make the Blind Hem Stitch?? First of all, look on your sewing machine to be sure you have this stitch… Then, to make the stitch, it makes it easier if you have the special Blind Hem Stitch Foot in your collection of sewing feet. Here’s what my Bernina Blind Hem Foot looks like.

My first attempt left something to be desired, so I tried again. This time I love how they turned out. I also love this hearts and flower baby cord that I got from Joann's. I didn't realize it at the time, but its just perfect for the Valentine's Day. I also like that this pattern is perfect for both boys and girls, just make these in a boyish print/colors and you have your Aladdin ready for the ride on the magic carpet.

Tutorial: Sew a child's reversible craft apron

These aprons were sewn as Christmas gifts for a friend's two little ones. I tucked themed crayons, colored pencils and stickers into the pockets - Disney's Cars for the little guy and Disney Princesses for the little gal. The toddlers loved their new aprons so much that after they each drew me a thank you picture they proceeded to wear the aprons for the rest of the day. These aprons are oh-so-simple to sew! A Simple Children's Scarf Tutorial : :

This is a wonderful little tutorial for a beginner sewist. A project that's super quick, easy, and is all about comfort. I don't know about you, but I have spent too much time knitting up scarves that are said to be too scratchy for my little ones. Well, this scarf is made by combining two soft fabrics of different weights -- Combine flannel with voile (like I did), quilting weight cotton with a cotton lawn or light weight linen, or use fleece instead of the flannel. I had my daughter pick the fabrics that "felt" the best to her. What you'll need : : 1. 3. 5. 7. Finishing the Scarf : : TUTORIALS.
