Untitled. Upcycled.co.uk. Conventional vs Upcycled. Object Abuse at KK Outlet. Max Lamb's book ends were created by cutting a standard brick in two For its latest exhibition, Object Abuse, London's KK Outlet challenged a group of leading artists, designers and stylists (including Chrissie Macdonald, Hudson Powell, Jiggery Pokery, Michael Marriot, Noma Bar, and Wilfrid Wood) to transform an everyday object, repurposing it to create an entirely new item, using as little additional materials as possible...

Object Abuse at KK Outlet

"The aim of the project," says KK Outlet, " is to create a collection of re-imagined objects which highlight not only how everyday items can be recycled into something new, but also how we think differently when we work with our hands and how physical interactions creates new ideas over and above working through concepts on screen. " Here are some of our favourite concepts from the exhibition, which opens tomorrow and runs until September 25: Lamb also found attaching a handle to a brick turned it into a handy door stop. Seeing promise, her high school teacher, urged her to enroll in art school. Like so many, Jennifer never believed there was a future for her in art; so, she veered in the opposite direction. Yearning to escape to the West, she left her home town Virginia, and headed for college in the great Rocky Mountains. She graduated with degrees in Spanish and International Relations. Though the work was exciting and rewarding, Jennifer still felt unsatisfied and restless. Although these educations and careers were not "right" for me, she now sees how her paths led her to this point in her life.

In a nutshell, these experiences looped back to her youthful passion with art and allowed her to understand it in new ways. Now, she collects "trash" and makes it "work" for her; it is in this simplicity that creates beauty and allows new ideas to flow. Jennifer designs all products with the use the hand torch. The quick success of his first design, a cardboard deer trophy, emboldened them to make more fun stuff. When not designing Luis loves to cook and share his recipes with family and friends. Having grown up in Spain, he tries to recreate the flavors of the Mediterranean in his kitchen. Luis was inspired to become an artist after working and consulting for the Spanish sculptor Juan Muñoz.
