Lorsque l’on visite les parcs de l’Ouest américain, un « incontournable » est Monument Valley, où John Ford tourna tant de Westerns, en particulier avec John Wayne. J’ai eu la surprise d’entendre une touriste française demander à un Navajo si « Il y avait encore des gens de la tribu qui vivaient dans des tipis »… Le guide navajo a été fort choqué, car jamais personne de sa tribu n’a vécu ainsi. L’habitation traditionnelle est le HOGAN, une hutte composée de pièces de bois imbriquées les unes dans les autres, et recouvertes de terre.
