Indigo Volunteer Abroad in Chile, Orphanage Programs. Indigo Volunteer Abroad in Chile, Orphanage ProgramsReviewed by Admin on Mar 6Rating: I was surprised that….My host family taking me everywhere they went, to family birthdays, BBQ and even away for a week of vacation. The most difficult thing I experienced was….saying good bye to the 15 two year olds that I’ve spent every day of 2 months with and my lovely host family. My best received lesson… always be open to new things Tip for future volunteers… (Clothing, travel, personal items, donations, sightseeing etc) Go to Isla Damaa. It is beautiful. Personal Paragraph (Testimonial): I had a fantastic time and I would definitely recommend it. How would you rate your experience working with the ABV staff, both in the USA, and in-country? How would you describe your accommodation ( ie: host family, on-site, shared housing etc) lovely welcoming family. delicious food, home cooked. lots of jokes and laughs.

Martin and Emma Volunteer Abroad in La Serena, ChileReviewed by Admin on Mar 13Rating: My favourite memory: On our first day at the orphanage, as we walked into one of the classes to be introduced to the other teachers, one of the children ran up to me (Martin) and hugged me, no questions asked. He just wanted a hug. I was surprised that: The orphanage is well organized, and they take very good care of the children. They’ve got lots of clothes and toys; they eat good, healthy food. It’s a very good environment for the children to ‘grow-up’ in if the parents are unable to take care of them. The most difficult thing we experienced was: A Spanish language barrier.

My best received lesson: As you get to know the children and when you’ve been informed how and why they ended up in the orphanage, it just makes you realize what a huge responsibility it is to bring a child into this world. The family is extremely inviting, friendly, loving and caring. Bob Volunteer Abroad in La Serena, Chile. I was surprised that… Many people here speak English well. The most difficult thing I experienced was… It is difficult to leave the kids, not knowing when I will see them again. All of the Spanish lessons in the afternoon with Camilla were excellent. Tip for future volunteers… (Clothing, travel, personal items, donations, sightseeing etc) Bring a sweater or jacket even if coming to Chile in the summer.
