LaSaGnA TiMpAnO. I went to see tUnE-yArDs on Monday night with some friends, and as always we wanted to cook a meal that somehow related to the show we were heading to.
Sometimes this is hard to do, but other times it seems to come naturally. Finding culinary inspiration in Merrill's lyrics seemed like it would be tough, but my sister knew what she wanted to make without hesitation. "How about something layered, because of all the vocal and instrument layering in the music? " From there we worked together to come up with this deep, colorful, and multi-flavored lasagna version of a timpano. If you are using words like deep, colorful, and multi-flavored to describe something inspired by tUnE-yArDs, you already know you got it right! Deliciously declassified. This is definitely the Cadillac of all mac ‘n cheeses – tasty pillows of potato and parmesan gnocchi coated with a creamy, mild cheese sauce and topped with crisp goodness?
Enough said. 1 lb. homemade or store-bought gnocchi2 tbsp butter2 tsp garlic, pressed (about 2 cloves)1 tbsp flour1 cup milk1 tsp dijon mustard1/3 cup fontina, grated1/3 cup gruyere, grated1/3 cup parmesan, powdered1/4 – 1/3 cup seasoned panko breadcrumbs (really just depends on what kind of breadcrumb to cheese ratio you want for the topping)Salt, to tasteWhite pepper, to taste *Recipe adapted from the Noble Pig.
