Raymond As editor of the Jargon File and author of a few other well-known documents of similar nature, I often get email requests from enthusiastic network newbies asking (in effect) "how can I learn to be a wizardly hacker? If you live in Europe or the Americas, you likely pick up a fork every day and give no thought to it, unless you’re selecting flatware for a wedding registry or you happen to have recently returned from Asia.
Using it probably seems as natural as breathing. And yet it is a bizarre object, as Charles Simic suggests in his poem “The Fork”: This strange thing must have crept Right out of hell. It resembles a bird’s foot Worn around the cannibal’s neck. As you hold it in your hand, As you stab with it into a piece of meat, It is possible to imagine the rest of the bird: Its head which like your fist Is large, bald, beakless, and blind. The success of Simic’s poem—one of a series of “object-poems” he attempted in the ’60s when frustrated with his work—lies in its ability to evoke strangeness and horror in an everyday experience. Magna Touchskin technology Once the preserve of control panels on the Starship Enterprise, touch technology is now central to some of the most popular gadgets, including smartphones and satellite-navigation systems.
It'll soon take over much of our car interiors too, says electronics firm Magna. The company has been working on what it calls Intelligent Surface Technology, a system of seamlessly integrating materials and electronics. According to Wards Auto (via Autoblog), a concept called Touchskin is central to Intelligent Surface Technology. Touchskin replaces traditional switches, knobs, sliders and buttons with capacitive electronics not unlike those you'll find on an iPod.
The possibilities are endless, and Magna considers it a more natural interaction between man and machine. The world is full of conspiracy theories – many of which contain elements of mystery. This will definitely not be the last list of this type. Theories surrounding the Ararat Anomaly arose from a single black and white photograph taken in 1949 by a USAF recon plane performing routine intelligence gathering of the Ararat massif, which was in an area of military interest at the time.
Conspiracy theorists, many of them Biblical literalists, claim that the odd-looking object if Noah’s Ark, which the Bible states “came to rest on the mountains of Ararat” after the Great Flood. The anomaly appears to be a very rounded elongation teetering on the edge of a slope, buried under ice and snow, and it has so roused the curiosity of the U. Author Andrew Collins was the first to photograph the bird which locals have named Jackie. Other fabulous albino animals include: According to Wikipedia there is no reported case of a true “albino” horse even though white horses have been referred to as albino in literature and some registries.
All so-called “albino” horses have pigmented eyes, usually brown or blue, and thus are not true albinos. Many albino mammals, such as mice or rabbits, typically have a white hair coat, unpigmented skin and reddish eyes. Dominant white in horses is caused by the absence of pigment cells melanocytes, whereas albino animals have a normal distribution of melanocytes In other animals, patches of unpigmented skin, hair, or eyes due to the lack of pigment cells (melanocytes) are called piebaldism, not albinism nor partial albinism. Working With Your Friends. Column by Janine Popick, Inc.com "Women in Business" November 2007 Put up boundaries before your friends get too cozy being the boss's buddy. Have you ever hired a friend? Someone you may have worked with in the past? We all do it, and for good reason: We trust them and we think they'll do a good job. Otherwise we wouldn't do it, right?
Then a great thing happens. Have any of these scenarios ever happen to you? Your FFTP, who reports to you, is talking to a colleague and tries to get what they want by playing the "I know the boss" card, or "Do you know how important this is to the boss? " What makes an FFTP think he/she can skate smoothly over the lines of business and make it personal?
People always want to feel important and if they can represent themselves that way because of a personal connection with you, you bet they will. What do you do? You confront him/her, one-on-one: You need to communicate that it's not fair to peers in the company to use a personal relationship to get farther. Lots of Jokes - Did You Know? Q. Why do men's clothes have buttons on the right while women's clothes have buttons on the left? A. When buttons were invented, they were very expensive and worn primarily by the rich. Since most people are right-handed, it is easier to push buttons on the right through holes on the left. Because wealthy women were dressed by maids, dressmakers put the buttons on the maid's right! And that's where women's buttons have remained since. Q. A. Q. A. Q. A. Q. A. Q. A. Q. A. Q. A. Q. A. Monday, May 30, 2011 Hokkaido milk toast is popular japanese-style bread. It’s soft, thick, fluffy and addicting. I found a recipe for Hokkadio milk toast in the 65 Degrees Tangzhong book and decided to try it out this weekend. As you know, I love making bread using the tangzhong method, which you can read a little more about here. Anyhow, I finally got my hands on a copy of the 65 Degrees Tangzhong book which is the book that introduces the tangzhong method of making bread along with a ton of gorgeous pictures and recipes. Of course, once I had the book, the problem is I don’t read enough chinese to understand it. When I went through the book, the picture that stood out to me most was this recipe for Hokkaido Milk toast. I followed the recipe for the most part, except that instead of splitting the bread each loaf into two sections, like the recipe called for, I did three sections.
I was really really pleased with how the bread turned out. This bread is soft and a little bit sweet. Hack This Site!
