Day in pictures: 8 April 2013 - FrontMotion Firefox. A class act. WE are at war. No, not with North Korea. The chances of Michael McIntyre's petulant younger brother doing serious damage to any nation other than his own are slimmer than a heavily-pregnant Kate Middleton, which is very. We're at war with ourselves. And, not for the first time, it's entirely about class. In the past few days not only have a series of welfare changes kicked in - including extra charges for people in social housing deemed to have a spare bedroom, a benefits cap, and an end to Disability Living Allowance - but the people who run the country have been spinning like ice skaters on crack. BOOM! WALLOP! KERPOW! Whether they are right, wrong, or halfway between the two is neither here nor there - the simple fact is these changes affect the poor, and they're being pushed through by the very nicely-off.

Even his best friends would facepalm over those. Whichever side you land on those stories probably depends on your class. Class is simply the position from which you view the world. This page was made on Tuesday 9th April 2013Last updated at 14:36 A new species of venomous tarantula has been discovered - and as spiders go it's pretty big!

The tarantula, named Poecilotheria rajaei, has legs that span 20cm. It was tracked down in northern Sri Lanka, and it's thought to be one of several new species of tarantula discovered there. The tarantula family of spider includes one of the world's largest, the Goliath bird-eater. Peter Kirk, Chairman of the British Tarantula Society, told Newsround there are worries about the spiders' habitat. You may have seen Peter on CBBC's Pet School where he was one of the Extreme Animal Experts. "The tarantulas of Sri Lanka have been studied in some detail in the past by myself and other arachnologists (spider experts!) " "But we have never been able to visit the north or east of the island because of the civil war that was going on there. " "Now Ranil Nanayakkara - a researcher from Sri Lanka - has done just that. Kent youth PCC Paris Brown's tweets 'not checked' - FrontMotion Firefox.

8 April 2013Last updated at 03:49 ET Paris Brown, an apprentice with Swale Borough Council, is due to begin the PCC job in the summer Recruitment procedures may be reviewed after Britain's first youth police and crime commissioner had to apologise for her comments on Twitter. Paris Brown, 17, said she was "wildly exaggerating" in "stupid, immoral" tweets posted when she was 14, 15 and 16, before her appointment. Kent police and crime commissioner (PCC) Ann Barnes said recruiters did not check her tweets or Facebook page. "Perhaps that is a lesson for the future," she said.

"We went through a perfectly normal recruitment process. "Social networking sites are a no-go area for most of us adults. "A lot of young people use them and say the most horrible things. The Mail on Sunday reported Ms Brown boasted about her sex life, drug taking and drinking on her account @vilulabelle on the social networking website. The Twitter page has since been removed. 'Better person' Blogs - The story of the real Robin Hood. 'Ancient Legends Retold: Tales of Robin Hood' contains the definitive Robin Hood. In these five early ballads, and one later play, Robin is himself a commoner, a yeoman, a working- class hero, not the ousted, disaffected Saxon earl into which the later ballads try to turn him, probably to please a Norman nobility that was beginning to enjoy him in spite of itself.

They are the earliest ballads and play and still the best of the bunch. Here we have the essential Robin Hood, the real Robin Hood, stripped of the romanticism that would clothe him in noble weeds or the mysticism that would seek to make of him some New Age spirit of the forest, related to Herne the Hunter or Robin Goodfellow. You will find a Robin Hood of fast action, hot temper and unswerving hatred toward the powers that be, especially the power of the Church and the highly paid flunkies, such as the Sheriff of Nottingham.

Autons, Nestenes, Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarans, the Master, Davros, Silurians and very soon Zygons... 21st-century Who has made a pretty good fist of bringing last-century baddies back to life.

(I’m still holding out for the Meddling Monk – perhaps reincarnated as Ricky Gervais – and Alpha Centauri, a sort of tentacled, timorous willy in a yellow cloak.) Yet the chances of seeing the Ice Warriors again – Doctor Who’s very own invaders from Mars, absent for four decades – seemed slim. That is, until Mark Gatiss came to their defence. He’d longed to revive them and says he had to cajole Steven Moffat, who was concerned they epitomised the lumbering, green monsters people can’t take seriously. Well, in a way they do, although that doesn’t gainsay their enduring appeal.

Now, in Cold War, Mark Gatiss has done an excellent job of rehabilitating the Ice Warrior. For a start, their name: it’s simultaneously a great and silly name. Mark gives them back their ice. The Rings of Akhaten review | Radio Times - FrontMotion Firefox. As for young Emilia Jones (ten when this was filmed, and real-life daughter of former boy chorister Aled Jones), well I cannot be mean about her. As Merry, Queen of Years, she overcomes the thinness of the material, carries off her scenes with aplomb, and really sells Merry’s mixture of naivety and knowledge, her natural childlike fear.

She brings out the empathic side of Clara, who is clearly drawn to children – both in this life (as a childminder back on Earth) and as her other self (in Victorian times). While Jenna-Louise Coleman continues to impress… and I can’t quite believe I’m about to type these words… Matt Smith is, for once, underwhelming. Regular readers of my blog will know that I usually extol him to the stratosphere, but the director lets through a tad too much mugging and the Doctor’s giving-it-large, get-a-load-of-me grandstanding in front of “Grandfather”, the Halloween pumpkin star, is uncomfortable to watch.

I don’t believe any of it. Thepoke - FrontMotion Firefox. News | British & Irish Lions | Rugby | Official Website - FrontMotion Firefox. North Korea preparing nuclear test, South Korea says - FrontMotion Firefox. 8 April 2013Last updated at 11:29 GMT Signs of activity have been observed at the Punggye-ri test site South Korean officials have said there are no indications that the North is about to carry out a nuclear test. A defence ministry spokesman said while activity had been detected at the Punggye-ri underground test site, it appeared to be routine. South Korean Unification Minister Ryoo Kihl-jae had earlier said there were indications a test was being prepared. Meanwhile the North has said it is withdrawing all its workers from the shared Kaesong industrial complex.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said such a nuclear test would be a "provocative measure", and warned that North Korean cannot continue "confronting and challenging the authority of the Security Council and directly challenging the whole international community". China has also called for calm and dialogue. 'No unusual movement' He replied that there were "such signs", but that he could not elaborate on specific intelligence.
