Our new Guide makes it easy for you to learn how to meditate, with explanations, five categories of meditation, and 21 exercises to get you started. Most people associate the word "healing" with working at the physical level to bring about a change in the body or the mind. By using medicine, herbs, vitamins, and exercise, for example, we work with the physical body to bring relief from unwanted symptoms such as pain, fatigue, anxiety, or chronic illness. Aki Ra "I poke my stick in the ground till I find a mine. Then I dig around it, to make sure that it is not booby-trapped.Then, I unscrew the detonator. And the mine is safe. " Aki Ra is a Cambodian guy who goes out into the jungle and disarms landmines with a pocketknife and a really sharp stick. While I feel relatively confident that I can probably just post that sentence by itself along with a picture of this crazy bastard unscrewing a densely-packed bomb of unexploded TNT with his bare hands and a seemingly-endless supply of raw bravery, over the years you guys have come to expect a minimum word count out of me on these sorts of articles, so perhaps a little further explanation is going to be required. Back in the dark days of the 1970s, when the hypnotic horrors of disco music held much of the world in its terrible, unbreakable death-grip, the Southeast Asian nation of Cambodia was taken over by a group of soulless assburgers known as the Khmer Rouge.

Sky-High House Sits Atop a Water Tower | Inhabitat.
We love hearing about old structures being converted into comfortable living spaces, but a water tower?! Dubbed the “House in the Clouds”, this architectural marvel was constructed 85 years ago as a water tower to serve the township of Thorpeness in Suffolk, England, but today it serves as a bed and breakfast for anyone searching for a getaway overlooking England’s low lying hills. Read on for the tower’s history, which is just as curious as the tower itself. When the tower was first being built, Thorpeness residents were worried about introducing an eyesore upon their unspoiled landscape.
So their design solution? Disguise it as a sky-high cottage! Problem solved… well, for a while. Eventually the water tower outlived its usefulness and was left to its own devices, abandoned to a fate like so many outdated buildings. If you’d like to see its amazing panoramic views first hand, the daily rate is a mere $900, with weekly rentals running $3,800! + House in the Clouds. Check out how a retro glass sculpture maps the city’s air quality !
In the center of Seoul ’s Peace Park , which is located across from the Korean World Cup Stadium, lies a very extraordinary sight: an outdoor glass canopy called the Living Light Sculpture. Created by Soo-in Yang and David Benjamin of The Living , and commissioned by the Korean Ministry of Environment, this amazing sculpture is more than just a fantastic piece of art. It actually projects up-to-date information about surrounding cities and their air quality. The glass skin on the sculpture is a map that covers 27 local neighborhoods, and every 15 minutes certain sections light up to tell you which city has the best and worst air quality. The coolest thing about the sculpture is that you can send a text message of a certain area code to the Living Light Hotline, and then minutes later you’ll receive a reply back that tells you the area code’s air quality. digg.

The range extends from red through to violet, with orange, yellow, green and blue in between. But there is one colour that is notable by its absence. You should have seen a green afterimage, but why is this significant?
The afterimage always shows the colour that is complementary to the colour of the image. Complementary colours are those that are exact opposites in the way the eye perceives them. It is a common misconception that red is complementary to green. All the colours in the light spectrum have complements that exist within the spectrum – except green. The light spectrum consists of a range of wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation. When our eyes see colours, they are actually detecting the different wavelengths of the light hitting the retina.
If the eye receives light of more than one wavelength, the colour generated in the brain is formed from the sum of the input responses on the retina. -Biotele. The Cyber Sea: World's Largest Internet Undersea Science Station Boots Up [Slide Show] Thanks to a new, wired undersea observatory, when it comes to exploring the deep blue sea, there will be no more of this tethered buoy business or taking ships out to upload data from brief time snapshots taken by instruments. The NEPTUNE network set to go online Tuesday will stream data from hundreds of undersea instruments and sensors direct from the Pacific Ocean floor to the Internet 24/7, year-round. The network is expected to produce 50 terabytes of data annually, all of which will inform scientists about everything from earthquake dynamics to the effects of climate change on the water column, and from deep-sea ecosystems to salmon migration.
"It's revolutionary in that it brings two new components into the ocean environment, which are power and high-bandwidth Internet," says Project Director Chris Barnes, from the project's offices at the University of Victoria in British Columbia. "We're really on the verge of wiring the oceans.

Cell Size and Scale. Some cells are visible to the unaided eye The smallest objects that the unaided human eye can see are about 0.1 mm long. That means that under the right conditions, you might be able to see an ameoba proteus, a human egg, and a paramecium without using magnification. A magnifying glass can help you to see them more clearly, but they will still look tiny. Smaller cells are easily visible under a light microscope. It's even possible to make out structures within the cell, such as the nucleus, mitochondria and chloroplasts. Light microscopes use a system of lenses to magnify an image.
The power of a light microscope is limited by the wavelength of visible light, which is about 500 nm. To see anything smaller than 500 nm, you will need an electron microscope. Adenine The label on the nucleotide is not quite accurate. How can an X chromosome be nearly as big as the head of the sperm cell? No, this isn't a mistake.

Each image portrays a specific quantity of something: fifteen million sheets of office paper (five minutes of paper use); 106,000 aluminum cans (thirty seconds of can consumption) and so on. My hope is that images representing these quantities might have a different effect than the raw numbers alone, such as we find daily in articles and books. Statistics can feel abstract and anesthetizing, making it difficult to connect with and make meaning of 3.6 million SUV sales in one year, for example, or 2.3 million Americans in prison, or 32,000 breast augmentation surgeries in the U.S. every month.
This project visually examines these vast and bizarre measures of our society, in large intricately detailed prints assembled from thousands of smaller photographs. ~cj, Seattle, 2008. Crafty Planet.
