Here is a secret, chosen soul, which the most High God taught me and which I have not found in any book, ancient or modern. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, I am confiding it to you, with these conditions: (1) That you share it only with people who deserve to know it because they are prayerful, give alms to the poor, do penance, suffer persecution, are unworldly, and work seriously for the salvation of souls. (2) That you use this secret to become holy and worthy of heaven, for the more you make use of it the more benefit you will derive from it. Under no circumstances must you let this secret make you idle and inactive. It would then become harmful and lead to your ruin. (3) That you thank God every day of your life for the grace he has given you in letting you into a secret that you do not deserve to know.
As you go on using this secret in the ordinary actions of your life, you will come to understand its value and its excellent quality. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 17. 18. 19. 20. 21. 22. 23. From her very beginning, the Church has professed faith in the Lord, crucified and risen, and has gathered the fundamental contents of her belief into certain formulas.
The central event of the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus, expressed first in simple formulas and subsequently in formulas that were more developed,1 made it possible to give life to that uninterrupted proclamation of faith, in which the Church has handed on both what had been received from the lips of Christ and from his works, as well as what had been learned "at the prompting of the Holy Spirit. "2 The same New Testament is the singular witness of the first profession proclaimed by the disciples immediately after the events of Easter: "For I handed on to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures; that he was buried; that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures; that he appeared to Cephas, then to the Twelve.
"3 2. Gladdest Hours: Family-Friendly Liturgy of the Hours. We started talking in the Keeping Sundays a Priority thread about modifying Compline or Vespers of The Liturgy of the Hours for use in our families, with children. At the beginning of this year, I borrowed Evening Prayerbook: Sunday Vespers and Night Prayers from a friend, to get an idea of how to "make our own" as well as using Christian Prayer.
Part of the Evening Prayerbook is available to view online These are beautiful books, and I love them! But, they are quite pricey, and also, I wanted a bit of flexibility to change things if I needed to because of reading ability, family circumstances, and liturgical season. Also to get really specific in who is saying what, to take turns, etc. Disclaimer: I'm no expert on the Divine Office; I simply went from what I saw in Christian Prayer and the 2 Patmos Books and tried to keep it as "authenic" as possible. I think we used this starting after Christmas, a couple times a week, for night/before-bed prayer-time.

Quote: I agree that it is a good idea to attend Mass without familiarizing yourself with the Missal or trying to follow along with it. But when you do decide to follow along with the Missal this is how I would go about doing it: 1. Put the Purple Ribbon at page 20 at the section "The Most Necessary Prayers". This will be particularly helpful until you begin to memorize some of these prayers in Latin. The memorization will gradually happen through attending Mass and using the Missal. After I began to memorize the prayers I moved the Purple Ribbon to page 119. 2. These are the Propers for the Mass - the prayers that change from Mass to Mass. 3. As you follow along in the Missal (which get much, much easier with time) just flip the pages to keep up. When you get to one of the Propers of the Mass you will want to flip to the White Ribbon.
The White Ribbon also tells you which Preface will be used for the Mass. 4. 5. Of course, feel free to modify this for your own personal needs. James. A Directory for the Liturgy of the Hours…with Children? I recently read the Directory for Masses with Children and was struck at how little my parish [and other parishes I have visited who offer a ‘Children’s Liturgy of the Word’] seem to be offering our young people. I am a parent and accompany my two young boys of 2 years and 4 years of age to weekly ‘Children’s Liturgy of the Word’ while by wife sits in the Church with the ‘big people’.
So, you could say over the last few years, I have been able to see what goes on at such Children’s Liturgy first hand. And I must confess, up until recently, I have been fairly pleased with what I have seen – that is – until my recent reading of the aforementioned Directory. For the most part, the children are whisked away after the Opening Prayer – and at my Parish don’t return until the Sign of Peace. After having read the Directory, it seems to me we are only offering a small sliver of possible faith development to our young people in the way we currently offer the ‘Children’s Liturgy of the Word’.
