Remember when they were giving away an Arnova 10 G2 tablet when subscribing to a digital Philadelphia newspaper? Well Archos just announced a new 8″ slate called the Arnova 8b G2. This is essentially a small update to the Arnova 8 G2. The listed specs are as follows: 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 single core processor8 inch, 800 x 600 pixel capacitive multitouch displayFront-facing cameraG-Sensor4GB to 8GB of storage512MB of RAMWi-FimicroSDHC card slotButtonless designAndroid 2.3 Gingerbread8.8″ x 6.1″ x 0.5″ / weighs 1.1 pounds The buttonless design makes us wonder if it will be receiving ICS in a future update, but the so-so specs could nix that plan.

My initial thoughts on Ice Cream Sandwich. 40% of U.S. phones are smartphones. 40% of smartphones are Android [Nielsen] In 2010, 3 out of 10 phones used in the United States were smartphones. That percent has since risen to 4 out of 10 according to new data from Nielsen. The vast majority of phones used in the U.S. are feature phones for a combination of reasons. Carriers attract customers with free or cheap phones, many people cannot afford a smartphone, and a large portion of the population has not yet been convinced that a smartphone is worth having.

Since smartphones opened new revenue streams for data, messaging, and other services on top of standard monthly contracts, carriers have heavily promoted their smartphone offerings. In the months between May and July 2011, Android accounted for 40 percent of smartphone OS share, according to Nielsen. Nielsen polled people to learn what smartphone OS they are likely to choose in their next phone purchase. Either way, both platforms are doing better than rivals attempting to build the smartphone population. Android 3.0 Preview | Samsung Galaxy Europa. Look, everyone, Multitasking does work after all! And has been doing so ... ARM chip, as used in current smartphones, close-up and personal! Note to any Apple fans who come this way: I love your iPhone, you know that, I've written about it often enough. But I also know its weaknesses. AND I can spot a phoney argument when I hear it. Since the Apple iPhone was launched, there have been a number of phoney arguments.

First of all it was "3G is too much of a drain on battery life, so you can't have it". A year later, the iPhone 3G (ahem) launches. There was also "You can't have third party applications, they'd mess up our nice clean device, our nice clean interface". The current suspect claim is that the iPhone can't let third party applications run in the background, i.e. to use multitasking. And it's complete and utter rubbish. Of course the iPhone can support multitasking and background operation of third party applications - this is (apparently - I haven't tried it) commonplace among users who have 'jailbroken' their iPhones. BUT. I can't emphasise this enough: Poll: Which Is the Better OS: iOS 4 or Android FroYo? iOS 4.0 has arrived just in time for the launch of the iPhone 4 this Thursday.

The newest version of the recently renamed OS brings a slew of new features, such as multitasking, folders and a universal inbox. Of course, Android owners have been enjoying these features for a while now. While Google has been playing catchup for years with iOS, this year has been different. Android 2.2. (FroYo) was revealed with much fanfare last month at Google I/O, complete with a speedy interface, better performance, cloud syncing and, yes, Adobe Flash 10.1. As we stated at the time, Google essentially declared all-out war against Apple and the iOS, and it's a war that's quickly heated up.

While Google touts 100,000+ Android activations per day, Apple can simply point to unprecedented iPhone 4 demand. Now that both OSes are out, we want to know: Which one has your loyalty? <br /><a href=" target="_blank">Which Is the Better OS: iOS 4 or Android FroYo? ‘Jelly Bean’ May Be Next Name Used For Android After Ice Cream Sandwich. While we haven’t even gotten any firm details on Ice Cream Sandwich which will possibly hit next month, ThisIsMyNext is already reporting on the next version of Android, code named ‘Jelly Bean’. There isn’t a version number mentioned as expected since we don’t even have that for ICS just yet. What’s a little disturbing about the report is that their source says the “game-changing stuff” originally set for ICS is being postponed and will be implemented in JB.

We shouldn’t get too up in arms over this because we have no idea what features the source is even talking about here. Beyond the fact that ICS is supposed to unite tablets and smartphones OS wise and may not have any hardware buttons, that’s all we really know.
