Unspooling Nov. 27-30 in Buenos Aires, it's by far the biggest and most ambitious Latin American film market ever, as well as the first full-fledged attempt by the Cannes Festival's Marche du Film to export its brand, know-how and know-who. It's a joint venture of Argentina's film institute, Incaa, and the Marche. Ventana Sur literally means "South Window." Ventana Sur won't be just another new market. "Because it's a market, it looks like a commercial venture. But it's not totally that," says Cannes Festival delegate general Thierry Fremaux.
