Edo-Tokyo Museum

The Edo-Tokyo Museum was founded on March 28,1993,as a facility to preserve the historical heritage of Edo-Tokyo. At the Special exhibition gallery, visitors can enjoy selected exhibits on subjects related to Tokyo’s history and culture, scheduled several times a year.

Exhibition Dates : Tuesday 6 March – Sunday 20 May 2012 In 18th century Europe, enthralled by the discoveries at the sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum, French landscape painter Hubert Robert (1733 - 1808) became known by the nickname "Robert des ruines" for his many works on these ancient sites. This exhibition focuses on drawings in red chalk selected from the world-renowned Robert Collection of the Musée de Valence, dating from his earliest production to his final years. Works by Robert's teachers and colleagues including Piranesi and Fragonard from other collections round out the display of 131 oil paintings, drawings, prints and furnishings.

Yushukan is a museum to inherit sincerity and records of enshrined divinities of Yasukuni Shrine by displaying their historically important wills and relics. This museum established in Meiji 15 (1882) stores 100,000 articles including many pieces of paintings, works of art, armors and weapons. "Yushu", the name of this museum means to associate with and to learn from high-principled people. Each article displayed in this museum is filled with wish of predecessors who named this museum Yushukan and sincerity of enshrined divinities who devoted themselves to build "a peaceful nation." By touching directly the sincerity of enshrined divinities who dedicated their precious lives for their loving motherland, hometowns and families, you may find something precious.

Heiseikan March 20, 2012 (Tue) -June 10, 2012 (Sun) The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston has been collecting Japanese art since the days of Ernest Fenollosa and Okakura Tenshin, and is now said to be home to over 100,000 works. This exhibition provides an opportunity to view masterpieces from this collection, with a focus on paintings, including several from the Bigelow Collection.

In the course of the year, the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen will once again be showcasing a provocative and varied exhibition program at our three venues, the K20 Grabbeplatz, the K21 Ständehaus and the Schmela Haus, a former gallery building located in Düsseldorf’s old town. Awaiting visitors will be different projects, ranging from classical modernism to monographic presentations of internationally recognized artists. Playing a central role in our program will be large-scale special exhibitions, as well as active interventions involving works from the permanent collection, along with special foci on film and video art and on artist’s rooms.
