The newly launched Lawrence Alkin Gallery is proud to announce ‘Aquatic’ - the latest collection of work to be released by acclaimed artist Dave White. Opening on November 14, Aquatic develops upon White’s ‘Natural Selection’ series, presenting artworks inspired by endangered species.Further to his international exhibition programme including MTV (Goss-Michael Foundation, Dallas), New Museum (New York) – and hot on the heels of his inclusion in Shortlist Magazine’s ‘Brit List’ – this is a rare opportunity to view White’s new original work before his solo debut in Los Angeles next year.

Aquatic features new works based on vulnerable species that inhabit our waters. Great White sharks presented in their dynamic scale, with White’s expressive style of painting, make their presence felt. Similarly octopuses are presented as beautiful enchanting creatures, flowing in full glory. White challenges his viewer to re-engage with the awe of the natural world. It's Nice That : Home. Reverse of Volume, 2009; 593 x 360 x 2000 cm; Glue, plastic sheet; Aomori Contemporary Art Centre, Aomori, Japan Of the existing accounts of Yasuaki Onishi‘s portfolio, few have investigated his work beyond commending the artists’ ability to manipulate space. However, there is a strong link which runs throughout his entire body of work – namely the interaction between the ideas and implications surrounding kinetics.

Formally, Onishi’s work not only manipulates, but depends on movement in order to convey the meaning behind each piece. In the two-dimensional realm, his long-exposure photography in his Shaved & Rolled series softens otherwise violent and immediate jolts of fire. Similarly in his sculptural installations, Onishi’s works rise and fall – respiring as if to possess their own sentience. “Reverse of Volume” RG, 2012; Commission, Rice University Art Gallery, Houston, Texas; Photo: Nash Baker As a viewer, one is left to ponder Onishi’s paradox of mass and anti-mass. Lee Chang Ming: Give a short introduction about yourself:Daniel Ali: I was born in London, raised in the South East of England. I completed my MA in 2010, moved to live in Australia for a little while, did a bit of traveling around South East Asia and then returned to London to concentrate on photography.

I currently have a few different occupations, such as film and digital projectionist for The Ritzy cinema in Brixton, freelance photographer and video camera operator and I even had a stint as a tour manager for an up and coming artist. I have a very mixed cultural background within my family which has encouraged me to travel and investigate people and places that you don’t just come across day to day. My photography is simply a visual representation of the people and the places I discover whilst trying to appease my own curiosities and interests. What does photography mean to you? I got a little carried away once I started stitching. Curly tails in the back. This boy has pockets! Her skirt is very fancy in the back. Hurray for something getting finished! I am feeling very far behind right now so I checked how many dolls I’d made by this point last year- yep, I’m behind.

Last year on this date I posted #29- 2013 doll. This fellow is made of black cashmere and a wool plaid shirt that I bought at the thrift store- my son got first dibs on it but he passed. She is cashmere body, beige and black, vintage wool plaid shirt and cashmere knit skirt. If you are interested in either of these pugs, they are $100 ea + shipping. My etsy shop is bare and I am trying to get my inventory back up before show season. I cut and cut and kept cutting. After I have these all dyed, then I cut out all the other pieces. Next I pulled out all my bins of wool and my fish pattern- and now there are 29 fish cut out and ready to move forward. And I am moving forward on foxes, already sewn.
