Big Herringbone Cowl. This winter New York City streets are filled with people who have learned the secret of keeping warm. They are all wrapped up in the big soft folds of the oversized cowl. A long loop that you twist and double around your neck, it's definitely a glamorous touch in a what can otherwise be pretty frumpy season. Don't you love when fashion and function meet in such happy harmony? This cowl was inspired by Joelle's classic Herringbone Poncho from her very first book, Last Minute Knitted Gifts. I stuck with Joelle's choice of yarn, Blue Sky's Worsted, because it is by far one of Purl Soho's softest, most cuddly yarns, perfect for wearing around sensitive skin areas like your neck. The cowl's final look keeps one foot in the past with a traditional herringbone stitch. The Materials 5 skeins of Blue Sky Alpaca's Worsted, 50% Royal Alpaca and 50% Merino.
The Pattern Gauge 15 stitches = 4 inches in herringbone stitch Finished Size 14 inches wide and 58 inches around Begin Cast on 220 stitches. Continue. Enjoy! Bits Of Everything: Wall Picture Collage. I have been wanting to hang something on the wall in my kitchen ever since we moved in. Between Emily and I, we finally dreamed up this Wall Picture Collage after looking at lots of other people’s photo collages- and I love the way it turned out.
Here are all the things that I bought. (all found at walmart) This entire project was under $20. My kind of project! *pictures you want to use (I had free prints from Costco) * 2 20×30 foam core boards (I got two black ones $2.88 each) *poster hanger thingies ($2.44) *foam brushes ($.97) *double sided tape ($3) *mod podge (I already had some) This shows you how thick the foam core board is.. First I drew out a plan.. Then I cut some computer paper first, and made sure it would work before I cut up my pictures.
Then I went to work cutting my 4×6 pictures into 4 inch squares. I then laid them all out on the floor in the order that I wanted them, and then taped them down with double sided tape. Then I took it in the kitchen and painted mod podge all over it. Wrapping Paper Bows. Have you ever had a strip of wrapping paper leftover after you've wrapped a gift? Don't toss it in the trash! Turn that scrap into a beautiful EASY bow in just a minute or two. This technique is very inexact. Start by folding the scrap of paper "hamburger" style with the printed side on the outside.
Fold it again, but this time "hot dog" style. Next, cut vertically up to (NOT THROUGH) the top folded edge. The finished bow depends entirely on the width of your cuts and the length of your scrap of paper. CAREFULLY curl the wrapping paper (like you would curling ribbon) by quickly pulling a strip between the blade of your scissors and your thumb. Don't worry if you accidentally cut off several pieces. At this point the bow will look something like this: Fold it in half one more time and give it a little shake. Tape it onto your gift and arrange the curls as needed.
Here are a few others: This is my kind of crafting--quick, easy, and inexpensive. Art & Projects to Keep Me Busy / My roommate and I decided to try this whole crayon melting thing out.. Came out pretty awesome! Whirl-it lampshade - Whirl-it lampshade - free DIY tutorial. We really needed a new lamp, and we´ve planned to make one for months. This week we finally got around to it. It takes a bit of different materials, but it´s really easy when you´ve started. We recommend making it outdoors, as it gets quite messy. The result is pretty neat, especially at night when the threads cast shadow on the walls.
We planned to make the lamp using the yarn Garnstudio Ice, but it ran out really quickly, and we had to improvise by using a thinner yarn to complete it. Perhaps it happened for a reason - we really like the contrasts between the yarn quality and colours. What we used One big, round balloon. How we did itGather all the materials.Put the yarn into the glue and mix properly. Fill the balloon to a desireable size. Hang it and start whirling. Whirl pretty tightly. Pinterest / Home.
