FFmpeg
FFmpeg is a complete, cross-platform solution to record, convert and stream audio and video. It includes libavcodec - the leading audio/video codec library. See the documentation for a complete feature list and the Changelog for recent changes. FFmpeg is free software licensed under the LGPL or GPL depending on your choice of configuration options. If you use FFmpeg or its constituent libraries, you must adhere to the terms of the license in question. You can find basic compliance information and get licensing help on our license and legal considerations page .Have you ever wanted to take the audio output of one piece of software and send it to another? How about taking the output of that same program and send it to two others, then record the result in the first program? Or maybe you're a programmer who writes real-time audio and music applications and who is looking for a cross-platform API that enables not only device sharing but also inter-application audio routing, and is incredibly easy to learn and use ?

Open Sound Control - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Open Sound Control (OSC) is a content format for messaging among computers, sound synthesizers, and other multimedia devices that are optimized for modern networking technology. Bringing the benefits of modern networking technology to the world of electronic musical instruments, OSC's advantages include interoperability, accuracy, flexibility, and enhanced organization and documentation. [ edit ] Motivation OSC is a content format developed at CNMAT by Adrian Freed and Matt Wright comparable to XML WDDX or JSON . It was originally intended for sharing music performance data (gestures, parameters and note sequences) between musical instruments (especially electronic musical instruments such as synthesizers ), computers, and other multimedia devices.Nodal - Generative Music Software

ChucK - [Programming Guide : Virtual Machine Options]
what is the Audicle? : Many software environments have been developed for computer music. Programming environments typically provide constructs to implement synthesis or musical algorithms, whereas runtime environments allow performers to exert parametric control over their programs onstage, in real-time. We present a potentially new type of audio programming environment that integrates the programmability of the development environment with elements of the runtime environment. The result, called the Audicle, is a duct-taped intersection of a concurrent smart editor, compiler, virtual machine, and debugger, all running in the same address space, sharing data, and working together at runtime.
